Buying off eBay is always a bit of a gamble, but sometimes you Win! I ordered a $99 3.91 Open differential(M96) out of a Lexus. The intention was to try out the lower ratio and if I liked it I would swap the ring and pinion into one of my BRZ diffs. Well the diff came in today and much to my surprise it turned out to be a 3.91 Torsen LSD!(M98)
Looks like I paid for a M96 and got a M98

Had this thread up at work all day and any time I got a break I would read a page or two. Incredible work. Makes me want to get back into welding. Gotta love ebay finds!

In other news I drove the car for the first time on the 3.91 diff and WOAH!! What a difference. I would say the 4.44 is a lot of fun and it's a quick car but now on the 3.91 the car is fast! With the 4.44 I set a high gate pressure to keep up with the rpms. Now on the same gate pressure I am seeing slight over boosts. That sure seems like proof of more load on the turbo. Around town I did loose that eagerness I loved in the 4.44, pulling away from a stop I need to slip the clutch a touch more then before but this was all to be expected. It's all worth it believe me.
If I was able to run e85 level power more often I wouldn't think twice about a 3.73

I hinted at it yesturday, how to add HP and keep intake temps down. I still have parts to collect for this setup but I am planning a 35-50 shot from a single nozzle. Spraying on top of boost compounds the out put so 35 should gain 60-70hp.
My idea here is I can keep a street friendly sized turbo but have more on tap when need be, not using this to set any records. Also need to figure out how to mount this thing. As of now the planned setup to run the NX, I'll collect these by spring: -10lb bottle -35-50 shot through Shark Nozzle (NX says a nozzle is better then a plate for small shot) -Auto Bottle Heater -Remote Bottle pressure gauge -Remote Bottle Opener -Fuel pressure gauge -Maximizer 4 controller for all the fail safes in one place. -Nitrous purge solenoid -NX inline filter Relevant Parts on the car, have most of these already: -Single electrode iridium spark plugs, factory heat range (Singles are more durable) -265lph fuel pump -1000cc ID Injectors -AFR Gauge -Electronic Boost Control -Upgraded clutch

28RS plus the 3.91 diff, this car is wicked fun, great street car.
Borg and Nitrous can wait till winter, I want to drive this thing. Would like a sportier clutch, probably put in an Action Stage 2

Spent some time this weekend setting up the suspension to my liking. From factory HKS sets the dampers to there suggested setting. To me this made for a very stable and safe handling car. Lots of rear end grip, if I had a real high HP car were rear wheel traction was real important I would have left it alone. However I found myself missing the toss-able curvy fun of the stock car. So with a bunch of runs to tweak the dampers and stiffening up the front sway I now have what I was looking for. The car is extremely eager to dive into corners and begs to keep turning, I'd describe it like making a good carve on skis or a snowboard. This does leave the rear end a touch light but not to the point of being sketchy, only saw this while trail braking. I don't want to install a larger rear sway as I like how the car wants to rotate now and I don't want to pick up the inside rear any more. I'm also hesitant to just keep going stiffer and stiffer. As a general idea here is my over all suspension setup: -HKS coils, 8K springs front and rear -Rear dampers set stiffer then fronts, for more high speed use I would raise the fronts a bit. -Slightly more negative camber in the front then rear -Front Perrin 22mm sway bar on stiffest mount -Stock Rear Sway -STI Rear Trailing Arms -Rear Subframe Inserts -Front Strut bars -Welded in Roll Bar

Mark, have you tracked the car at all? Curious how the turbo setup holds up to some heavy abuse as far as temperature.

No I have not but I wouldn't hesitate at all to do a track day with it. I do want to make the fender vents functional.

BW looks like a great option. Id also like to see the new gtx29 garret. My gtx2867r made a kill mode 393wtq on a dynojet at one point. Once i figure out the transmission issue ill probably try the gtx29.

Made a new upper IC pipe to try out a Race Port blow off. Also a bung for the future nitrous nozzle.
Also bit the bullet and made some hood vents

Also in the works, more differential meddling. I picked up a MK3 Supra LSD. These got a bad rep after being set pretty loose from the factory, however Weir Performance has the upgrade to cure this.
