gear ratios are completely different and manual was proven faster in some Japanese test videos.

also in the EVO test the auto BRZ was up against manual Megane, Mx5 etc (it's the only auto in the test). that's not exactly comparing apple to apple.

I don't think it's "over hyped" at all. I have not seen any reveiws that have said it is fast. Toyota have never said it's fast either, so I am unsure of how it over hyped?
Nothing I have read about this car has made me fel disappointed, because i wasn't expecting it to have lots of power.It's ALWAYS been said that the car isn't powerful, but handles well. Right from the start.

Year or so back, when people complained about the power I suggested to take a mx5 for a spin to get the gist of what this car is about

Yeah, good call. Mx5 is only fractionally slower over quarter mile than 86. roughly half a ec? Not much, so very similar.
People write mx5's off too quickly without driving them....

So true. Weight is the most important factor for me, as more power is easy, less weight can get expensive and has a limit.
