Monoprice has a 4k 27" monitor for $297 USD. Caveat is that it's a 60Hz. I'm gonna review one in a couple days, but if it's anything line the previous version, it'll be great value for money.

I looked at that. Just trying to figure out if I actually need a 144hz monitor. Or if I need 1440p. The options become much more vast when only one of those is required. I think I'd rather be able to play at 1080 with a higher frame rate shown on the screen than at a higher resolution though.

I think with your budget build you'll struggle to push higher resolutions. A better resolution is not worth a poor frame rate.

Go pro. Its pretty pricey but damn, its well made. People made their own with PVC but its not as stable and doesn't absorb bumps and vibrations well..

Side thought: go pros suck at night. Dashcam much better.. but it doesnt do 60fps

Sorry, not in a good position to make anything this moment. Moving in a week for a new job. @soulreapersteve do you have calipers? I could reverse engineer that and make the files available for anyone wanting to have one made. I don't have a go pro so I don't know what size the holes in the end should be

This is how I would do it. Holes or whatever could be added to the long end. Not as fancy as Steve's but it would be far cheaper. Probably don't even need the cutouts for the headrest uprights. I think it would clamp hard enough to make them unnecessary. Maybe put a little piece of picattiny rail on the end for a GoPro to clamp on. Not sure what all attachment options they have

Eh. That's a decent price for the setup you get.

Yeah, you could make them cheaper, but could you do them in batches, box them up nicely with instructions and all the extras, and still make a profit for much less than that? It adds up pretty fast.

As someone that says "I could make that for a lot less" rather a lot (I'm learning as I age!) I'm skeptical, though limiting its use to just this platform could help the cost a bit.

I've done custom car parts for folks in the past, and I barely broke even (I still have the two I made for locals I 'could trust' that never got picked up or paid for... so the loss goes against any profit I might have made...) People just didn't want to pay, even though no one else did anything close.

Of course, I've already gone through a few mental design iterations to make it even better for how I'd use it... maybe I do need a headrest camera mount... hah. I'd need another gopro though.

edit: I'd be making it so it's not clamp-on, but slide-on. I flip my headrest when I AutoX (much better fit/comfort with the helmet)
