Did I blow my clutch or transmission???
So I was driving through an under pass and I thought it would be cool to bring the rpms to 7000 and right when I shifted into second (the wheels usually break loose a little bit) and as soon as a let the clutch out something blew, the rpms went right down. As we’re pulling over in nuetral it sounds as if the transmission was dragging on the road. But that wasn’t the case. My car is making around 280 whp and 240 tq I have a 6 puck act clutch rated for 350 tq. did my clutch blow or my transmission?? When we put it in first and try to let out the clutch you can hear a loud raddled.

Well now, Kalebhall, that sucks .....
I reckon something in the drivetrain gave out. I could be the clutch, the pressure plate, the transmission, the driveline, the differential or the axle(s). If I were going to guess, I would guess the clutch disk blew apart and took the pressure plate and TOB with it ..... and maybe messed up the flywheel. How does the engine sound .. ?? Will it start off in 2nd gear .. ?? humfrz |

ACT 6 puck clutch? Say no more. You had me at ACT.
It's your clutch. One of two things, the springs popped out or the pucks came off the shaft cylinder thingy. Time for a new clutch. Sorry dude. Oh back in my MR2 days ACT clutchs where notorious for failure. They never could get MR2 clutches right. Great for other cars but not for ours.

Also when the cars off I went through each gear and it felt like 5th and 6th were pretty tough to put into gear.

There is an inspection cover on the bell housing that you could get a mirror and a light into to do a quick visiual. The stock one is a rubber cover.

My vote is also on a spring breaking loose or maybe a drive strap on the PP snapping. Either of those are like bombs going off inside. If it's a drive strap then the mating surface in the PP will go off center and creates some extreme vibration. The metal that retains the springs will snap off which lets the spring loose. So the spring normally doesn't move too much but the chunk of metal finds its way all over the place. It will make all kinds of racket is it's a spring. If it's a spring then you will probably have some damage on the FW too.
You said you put it in 1st and let out the clutch and it made noise.. did the car move at all? |
