Interior window film (grease?)

Hi Friends,

I've had my BRZ for about 2.5 months and I've noticed and foggy film or grease developing on the inside of my front windshield (a bit in the rear too). It really shows up when driving into direct sunlight or oncoming night time headlights. I had a similar foggy film develop on my previous car as well. Is this from the HVAC system or from me? I have previously tried windex on it but I didn't get the results I wanted.

Anyone have any similar situation or have any idea how to get rid of it?

Update: I seem to have found satisfactory results in removing the film. Do an interior wipedown of the windshield with a damp microfiber cloth and follow up with a dry one. Seemed to do the trick.

I've been noticing the same in my car, tried Invisible Glass to no avail. I'm open to suggestions.

All of my cars get this over time. It's the result of continuous condesation, it should clean off but getting a streak free finish is hard. You need a non linting cloth and very little cleaning solution. I find the best are high quality paper towels as opposed to a microfiber.

Mostly off-gassing from the plastics causes this. Try a little ammonia & water mix in a spray bottle and newspapers wadded up then kinda flattened out. Don't use color comics. Newspaper is almost lint free. DON'T use this on your tinted windows. Check around at car shows too for people selling super-micro fiber towels. Usually 2 for $10 and they look like a paper towel but are a super tight woven micro fiber. These you can use with just water alone.

Could be the vinyl off-gassing as stated or could be evaporation of any interior cleaners / detailing products used including leather treatments on leather seats. Some of the earlier products like Armor-All are notorious for this. Could be a combination of the two. In either case leaving a closed up car in full sun and heat will make this worse. If it is vinyl off-gassing, it will eventually get better.

Mine hasn't been too bad so far. I haven't used any products on the interior and there hasn't been enough sun or heat here in New England to cause much off-gassing. Invisible Glass has worked well enough when needed.

BTW, I always lay a clean beach towel over the entire dash / steering wheel area before spraying the glass. No headaches with drips or overspray affecting those areas.
