Supra does not seem to handle going over the curbs near as well as all the other cars in the field. Also seems to be stuck with a significantly higher ride height in comparison.

Typical Toyota racing luck at the end.

Yea, someone in the pit crew is not having a good day after the race.

I'm not that familiar with GT4 racing, how much off-the-track counts as too much? As long as you recover? There was a lot of full car off the track stuff so how far can you take it?

I mean, there were a couple of places in the track where there were some S turns that looked like you could have made up time by just going straight.

Not really apples to apples but, the GR Supra dominated SuperGT first 2020 race with 1st through 5th finishes in GT500 and 1st in GT300 at Fuji! Quite a great return for the Supra and a great weekend for Toyota.

They are typically pretty lenient about track limits at most tracks in this series. As you could see in the race there are potentially significant negative consequences to abusing track limits too often as the two Mercedes AMG drivers found out.

The curbs at Imola are rather tame compared to some they will see at tracks later in the season.

Supra needs a bigger fuel tank by the looks of it.

The Supra played much better at the Super GT last week, IMO. Had a great turnout there.

Edit:

New video from Gazoo Racing today about it:

How much of any of these cars are Supras? I don’t know classes. Are these about as close to production Supras, as the Nascar Supra or Corolla is to those production cars?

Race 2 of the weekend on now.

The SuperGT cars are nothing like a production Supra. They are more akin to the DTM racecars. The GT4s are production cars that have been modified for racing with weight savings and a full race cage and other safety features.

Much better outcome on second try.

In Japanese Super GT? Nothing except a few styling touches and a name. In GT500 they are tube-framed silhouette racing cars with specially prepped, turbo inline 4 race engines putting out over 650HP. I have very little interest in silhouette racecars, might as well watch F1 IMHO and do away with the pretence.

European GT4 racing, on the other hand, starts with a production version of real cars and manufacturers’ own engines, which are then heavily modified for racing, including having performance specs equalised (in some cases it means GT4 cars are less powerful than street versions) to keep the racing close. Since these are essentially heavily modified ‘track day’ versions of real GT cars, I personally find this style of racing more interesting than the silhouette versions.
