Hood repair or replacement

Hey, I am not even sure if I’m posting in the right section... since I believe it does fall under repair.

However, after a minor accident. My hood got dented. The insurance will replace my hood. When I went to the Body Shop, I saw the hood seemed as they repaired and not replaced... as it was written in the work paper.

Is this normal?
Give me a moment I will upload the pictures.

If it was written and approved as a replacement, I would expect a replacement.

If the body shop re-wrote the estimate and submitted it to insurance as a repair then it's on the up and up. Maybe it was done to save insurance some money once they actually did a detailed cost analysis after taking everything apart.

Our factory hood is pretty cheap though, usually it's a replacement with even minor damage.

Some shops do aluminum work and if they deemed the damage repairable might have done that.

Everything must be replaced by the insurance, it’s in my policy. Replace, not repair. Like Summerwolf said, it’s in the work papers . Anyways here’s the pic.

I’ll go ask where the old hood is !

I found a "repaired" frs at auction with a steel hood. I also found some steel hoods for sale on a website. Make sure the new one is aluminum.

What was the actual damage there? It really doesn't look like much was needed, I could easily believe that was changed to a repair, after analyzing cost to fix / paint vs new + labor.

Just ask for an updated repair quote and check it all.

On the paper everything must be replaced, and they claim it’s a new hood. I just want to make sure it’s a new hood. I can post a video of my accident it’s minor

Check if your new hood has the vin or not? If it was replaced it most likely doesn't have a vin, at least in my limited personal experience

On my 2017 86 (US spec) the hood VIN is on a sticker located almost directly above the brake fluid reservoir.

Canadian cars do not have VINs on the individual parts.
