I am not interested in a car like this at all but I will check back to see how close I got on my guesses.
In post #953 I speculated about an FI I4. It would help hold down cost and weight while boosting EPA mileage. A hybrid system would add at least $2K, 200 lbs., reduce load carrying capacity and interior volume plus would burden a performance car with an annoying CVT.

But hey, nobody knows so my guess is a compound turbo 2.5l I4 with M/T standard, A/T optional, 320 hp +/-, 3,200 (for 10 lb./hp) and starting at $62K. Debut at NAIAS in January 2018 for release as a 2019 to mark the 40th anniversary of the US sale of the 1979 Celica Supra.

There actually may be more to it thean just your and my guesses. I posted this link a while back that seems to point to the I4 and electric motors too: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...ls-emerge.html

I forgot about the prototype super capacitor system. That would be something. Nobody would be complaining about lack of torque. Plus talking about joules or flywheels doesn't get me excited, so would pass on that or any hybrid system in a high performance car, LaFerrari and 918 excepted.

There's no way in hell the Supra will sport a I4turbo. Hell no. It'll be at least a V6 turbo or V8.

I'd prefer an I6, but wouldn't mind a FI I4. There's precedent:

A I4 would drive the Supra worshippers nuts.

Well... if I recall correctly there was a sighting of a BMW i8 on a test track in Japan, I believe Fuji Speedway, before it was released.

Liking the BMW bodywork more than Calty's more radical treatment. It has lines like AMG GTS and McLaren combined. If it goes to production with a carbon fiber tub, price is anyone's guess.

Didn't Toyota invest a lot of money into carbon fiber production for the LFA? Could they be helping BMW with that aspect?

BMW joint venture with a carbon fiber maker, they have much better capacity and cost efficient than Toyota. i8 is an example.
