Mules? Maybe 2021.

On sale in US 2023.

That gives the car a 10 year lifecycle.

Subaru, like Toyota and other manufacturers, has announced in different ways that they will move to HV & EV over the next decade

I like 300sl style, not lambo style. And, the roof would be different, adding weight up top, would change the cars low COG. It really is more of a thought, than a good idea.... Those lambo door kits look terrible anyway....

It seems like it's gone all quiet on the Eastern front from Toyota now. Compared to the initial development cycle for the 86 where we saw renderings and concepts almost 4 years out and the new 'Supra' which was unveiled as the FT-1 back in 14 and spy shots of the production car started showing up roughly two years ago.

When do you think we'll start seeing the news torrent and spy shots on the twins replacement?
There's a turbo version next year. or the year before, or the year before that, or even before that. But for sure next year.

So what you are saying is that you want the Supra. Sounds like mission accomplished at Toyota HQ.

If it weighs in at 2700lbs? Yeah, maybe. Is it a done deal or vaporware?

Well, when you increase torque, you need to beef up the chassis to handle it, which adds weight. That weight necessitates further increase in beefing up the chassis, brakes and safety-related structural bits. Add in the fact that this was designed as a roadster (by BMW who no longer knows how to make a lightweight car), then adding a fixed roof, and it is a bit of a miracle they kept it under 3500 lb.

In regards to weight, I have to wonder if it's even possible to build a production car under 3,000lbs any longer. I couldn't find more recent specs, but according to this article from the NTHSA between 1968 and 2012 the weight of mandatory safety equipment went from 10lbs to 171 pounds (an over 1600% increase), not to mention the $1,900 in cost (see table below).

That doesn't include "Convenience" features we all demand as standard now (A/C, electric windows, cup holders, advanced radio systems, cruise control, etc) that were not standard on 1968 cars.
