It's still a bit early for me at 65000kms and just under 6 years but I've got valve spring recall service coming up next month so I'm getting my plugs done at the same time, only being charged parts. Glad that I won't have to worry about it for another 7-8 years at least with 0 trouble and added expense to myself.

That should do it. Just take your time, practice removing extensions one handed, and with needle noses. Oh and make sure to do back stretching exercises. You'll be bent over for a while.

This vid should help out, it did with mine.
I attempted this last weekend and it went well athought it did take about 4 hours. It was still better then spending a few hundred dollars. The money I saved I ended up getting a Sonos speaker for the garage to cover up the cursing. Haha.

Plugs from Toyota: $136
Local shop to do the work: $449

Getting this done in the winter on the same day we get high winds and 1.5ft of snow: priceless.

Prices in CAD, after tax.

oil in the spark plug recess after 98000km! I just did mine myself; watching videos and reading what everyone else has done was great. I used an old rubber gas line to screw the plugs in (like I saw in a video) and had a towel stuffed in there to stop tools from falling down. A bolt did actually end up falling down but I used a boroscope camera to find and pick it up with a magnet. I also wanted to check out the inside of the cylinders and noticed there is oil in the spark plug recess. What’s the deal with that? It’s not an easy job. I wouldn’t recommend anyone try it without a bunch mechanical skills, correct tools, patience, and you have at least a six pack of you favorite beer!. Would the oil leak be a warranty thing?

Oil is probably from a leaking valve cover gasket, you could try for warranty repair on it but they'll probably fight hard. IIRC you have to pull the engine to replace the "gasket" (sealant I believe).

Just called Toyota for plugs, $28 a piece. Get transferred to Service to ask how much labour would be. $99 for the entire service. Spark Plugs included. Sounds too good to be true, but I booked an appointment ASAP.

Loosening the motor mounts and jacking the engine per each side will help you get to the hard reach areas, makes taking the spark plugs out very easily.

$112 without labour, $99 with. Guaranteed they priced the wrong car for the service with labour. They'll correct it when you show up, and expect it to be at least $500 with parts.

I'm going to ask to sign the paperwork before they start the work, but yeah I'm sure she quoted the wrong car, but I even specified "Even for an FR-S?" and she was quick to say yes.

I'm sure they'll catch it before getting you to sign it. IIRC it's like 5 hours of time, and they won't have booked things properly for the day without accounting for that.

Will still test my luck. Worst case I cancel and change it on my own as I was planning to anyway.

Did you ask him about getting his cost on parts too? Might've been a bit cheaper, I forget what the markup is like on the plugs.
