Clutch parts / questions - Toyota vs Subaru

Looking at prices for a clutch replacement for my BRZ.

Any reason not to mix and match parts?

Throw out bearing and the clutch disk are cheaper from toyota :

SU00307349 - $21   vs 30502AA150 - $55   (throw out bearing)
SU00300799 - $91   vs 30100AA870 - $170 (Clutch disk)

Can the flywheel be resurfaced, or do I need to shell out $200 for a new one.

Only doing the clutch because the throw out bearing started making noise. Since the trans will be off and I do have 35k miles...

Do you have any power mods on your car?

Are you doing the work yourself or having it done at a shop or a dealership?

Although they are probably the same, I'd stick with the Subaru parts.

Yes, a flywheel can be resurfaced unless it's cracked or really gouged up.

If the TOB hasn't gone completely bad, there is a good chance the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel are still in good shape, depending on how much (if any) the system has been abused.

There is no way of knowing until you open it up.

mix & match is fine - different parts numbers for different companies but the same darn thing
Toyota's cheaper probably because higher volume production than subaru

consider aftermarket stuff for better durability and quality

Yeah you can use Toyota parts. Or you could find cheaper Subaru parts online.

You can resurfaced the fly if needs be. It's your call once you open the tranny up.

Stock power and no plans to change that. I'm just doing the clutch because the TOB started making noise and I've read all of Tcoats warnings to get it done before it completely lets go. While I'm in there, figure I'll do the clutch. Going to do the work myself to save $ - plus I kind of want to do it.

Thanks - was almost certain they had to be the same part - I am going to buy the parts online - the discounted Toyota disk is $68, but the cheapest I've seen the Subaru disk is $117. $16 for the TOB vs $38.

Plan on ordering disk, pressure plate, TOB, and and will see how the flywheel looks once the trans is off.

Any recommendations on a specific grease for the clutch fork?

Why not just get an OEM replacement kit from Exedy? (Exedy manufactures the OEM clutch)

Clutch kit (Pressure plate,Clutch disc,Throw-out bearing,Alignment tool,Pilot bearing, and grease) - $213

However, if all can be had from the dealer for cheaper pieced together, then I completely understand going that route.

Yeah, that was the reason I got piece-parts instead of the clutch kit - reached out to a couple vendors and they couldn't say if the Exedy kits would ship with the updated TOB.

I'm paying about the same for the Toyota/Subaru parts vs. the Exedy kit since I'm buying a TOB either way to be sure.

Sounds like Eric at Verus recommends Sil-Glyde (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=78), it's avail at my local advance auto (25% off too) - so I'll give that a try.
