I'm a CPA/auditor. I audit title insurance agents.
Oh, god. CPA? Auditor? Title insurance? I must lead the most dull and boring life imaginable! Yep, pretty boring. I spend 80% of my time on the road traveling to small towns and big cities in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and other states as needed. I've been sent to at least 22 states. I meet a new group of people on every audit, most of them nice, some of them not as nice, a very scant few assholes (but assholes are the most fun) and the very, very infrequent crook. I work out of my own house 4 hours away from HQ where nobody actually knows where I live. I set my own schedule and work my own hours, without having to ask anybody's permission to set up a doctor's appointment, run personal errands, take a two hour lunch break or just blow off work and go see a movie. I haven't seen my manager in person since February and can go a month at a time without even talking with her on the phone. She leaves us all alone to do what we're paid to do as long as we keep turning in audits. I've never set foot on our corporate campus and am completely immune to the corporate politics. On some of my "home" days I don't even bother to put on pants. I spend 130 paid nights a year in hotel rooms and have about 40 free hotel nights, several free flights and a couple of free car rentals built up for my own use. All my meals are paid for while I'm on the road. I pay for it all with a corporate Amex and get to keep the points on that for gift cards or Amazon credits. I spend next to nothing on utilities. The company pays for my continuing professional education to keep my CPA license current ($2200 this year). They even pay for my high speed internet and a AAA membership. The tax-free mileage reimbursement for the 25K to 30K miles I drive my BRZ is considerably more than the cost to operate it. I bought it with a loan and let my mileage reimbursements pay it off. Now I actually make money off the car and put the excess into a fund for future cars, parts or maybe some property. And the company paid to move me to Florida, where I pay no income tax, don't have to worry about car inspections, can walk down the street for some of the best seafood in the world and can carry a gun if I want. If I describe what I actually do, I'd lose your attention within a few seconds. Best job I ever had. |

That sounds awesome. Well... not the actual job part but the traveling part does.
I wish I was a truck driver, with out actually loading, unloading and driving a truck. That would be a great job. Also just like being a male escort...but with out the gay sex and old lady pounding.

My degree is in aerospace engineering, but since I own a BRZ, I'm currently an IT Project Manager, lol.

I fit the stereotype*: Software Engineer
*Except maybe by age, I assume I’m older than the average forum member, 60 years OLD in 2019. |
