Alternator pulley removal

I have purchased the Go Fast Bits alternator + water pump pulley to go with my Perrin crank pulley. I am having trouble getting the alternator pulley off. If anyone that has done this can share a proper method and tool to remove said pulley, it would be excellent.

BTW mine is an automatic if it matters

I've had to use a screw driver through the cooling fan fins to hold the stater inplace. I haven't done the job with this alternator though so YMMV.

I'll second the impact aswell.

I tried inserting something inside the alternator body to hold the shaft, and rotate the nut with a breaker bar. I was scared of breaking a fin or messing something up, so I went to a shop where they had the right tool for the job.

I have messed things up in the past trying to do things with the wrong tool. Doing it with the right tool will save you time, money, and the headaches of fucking shit up haha.

I know this post is years old but I just want to add this for anyone who might be installing an alternator pulley bolt in the future. Do NOT use a screw driver through the cooling fan fins in the back to hold it in place. I tried to do this while changing out my pulley tonight, and now I have one broken alternator which lucky me is just cosmetic damage. Take the time to get a strap wrench to hold it in place while you torque the bolt. (I used google while working on the car to find this post, figured I would give it a try. Lesson learned.)
