@SC David,
another idea to throw up there, is perhaps we can schedule a final meet point at the end of our drive. Those who can't make the drive or prefer to sleep in, can join us there for a meet/photoshoot. if we end up in the Peninsula near 101 at the end, we can even go to somewhere like my work building in Redwood Shores, for a kind of parking garage/rooftop background if you want.

Should get to Hwy 280 by about 11am, but let's say noon to be safe...time goes by fast when you have a couple of stops along the way.

Sounds good. I'll take a look at Google maps tomorrow and see if there is a good place in the vicinity of our end point to work with.

Let's get a headcount; feel free to copy/paste and delete the maybe if you'll be coming out, or add on your name.

They're talking about the new tunnels right now on KQED radio for anyone who is curious/doesn't know much about them (me). Early on called it the most dangerous road in California. Bit of an exaggeration?

Yeah, was listening to this too, pretty interesting, like you said, for those who don't really know much about it. I'm not sure its the most "dangerous" but maybe more "unpredictable". I remember every now and then hearing on the news that "oh, part of the cliff collapsed/eroded again" and every year, it would get closer and closer to the road, which I think was the reasoning for the tunnel.

I didn't catch the radio program, but from the news stories I was reading about the tunnels, yeah the whole purpose of them is to provide a safe, reliable passage through that part of the coast... the constant rockslides and erosion would close off the access to that area and leave people "stranded" or facing a very long detour to get in/out of the area. Plus there's mention of reckless drivers who took the turns too fast and "drifted" into the opposite lane or off the side of the cliff into the sea.

So yeah let's take it easy out there on this part of the cruise, we are just going to enjoy the sights and take it in one last time before the road is closed for good. They say it will eventually be repurposed for a hiking and cyclist park but this weekend may be the last time you'll be able to drive on it.

OK, due to the popularity this meet/drive has got its own thread - please discuss details and share photos/stories here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31663

Tell her you guys will go on a date after the drive. Sam's chowder house at halfmoon bay is a very good place to grab lunch. Try out the lobster roll (if you're not allergic to shellfish).
