Replacing 2013-2016 BRZ Wheel For 2017?

Ready for this....Has anyone been successful or heard of anyone being successful in converting their 2013-2016 BRZ steering wheel to a 2017 steering wheel with the Radio Controls on an aftermarket Deck? I am debating weather or not to try this. I like having controls on the steering wheel. Especially since my new deck has terrible controls for volume.

I haven't seen it done yet.. but would be interesting. Why not try it out and let us know how the process goes?

Yea I was going to try. Just not sure what parts I might need.

I figure the steering wheel obviously. My big question is the airbag and wiring differences at the steering wheel. I can probably order the pieces for the steering wheel itself without getting the wheel. Just not sure if it will all fit on the exsisting parts.

I hear you don't actually need the steering wheel for it.

Man that would be nice.

I have really figured out a lot here. The wiring is there for control on the 2015+ BRZ. It is plugged into the Clockspring at the wheel. The wires then go to the back of the deck like a standard steering wheel controls.

The issue now is according to what I can tell. The steering wheel, air bag, plastic piece under the steering wheel are all completely different. I ordered the steering wheel buttons to test and see if I can get them to work. If I do I will then probably need to purchase the remaining parts for it to fit accurately.

So currently these are the parts I have found that would be required. This is also for future reference for others. Once testing I will let you know my findings:

This is the part I found for the actual buttons that I ordered for testing alone with the Axxess steering wheel interface. The rest are unknown if needed.

Well, I thought I had this nipped. It will not work. There is no wiring from the steering wheel to the radio after all. The pins it would normally be are not there. Also the clock spring is different as well which i thought it was not.

Could you not wire it from the steering wheel to the head unit? I don't know that you need the axxess control unit either.

The issue would then be the clock spring. There is no way to run the wire without it getting tangled up somehow. Also there is no place to run the wire to the steering wheel because the clock spring is in the way.

Generic Steering wheel controles

Crutchfield has an upgrade generic kit to add controls to a steering wheel. Stop wasting time trying to spend a load on money

I highly recommend the KENWOOD DNS893S, with Apple & Android Play, Garmin NAV, All OD controls, Sirius, front/Back camera, etc

Funny, that's what I think about the OEM 17+ wheel.
