Wave to fellow FRS/BRZ on the road?

So apparently, my friend who owns a Subaru WRX was telling me that you're supposed to wave to other fellow drivers/owners of the same model as you on the road.

If this true? Anyone have any experiences with this?

Considering I've only seen one other BRZ, and it's always parked when I drive past it, I haven't been able to try this out yet. :P

I think a thumbs up is more appropriate... We will look like a pack of fairies waving to all each other otherwise lol...

I mean this isn't something I ever did in my camry for obvious reasons but the one time I saw an FRS driving I gave him a huge enthusiastic thumbs up after he was close enough for me to confirm it wasn't a genesis coupe...those things have near-tricked me more often than they should.

Of course I'm a weirdo and will give a thumbs up to any car that obviously takes an enthusiast to own (mint 70's 911, mk1 mr2, etc).

If it's a FR-S, BRZ, or a Subaru with a hood scoop, I wave. The cult of Subaru welcomes all.

When I first got my WRX, in 2002, I waved to every other Subaru I saw, especially a WRX. When I drive my WRX now I don't really wave, or throw a thumbs up or acknowledge. In the beginning the community was smaller, since the WRX was new to the US shores, so it was rare to see one and your wave or acknowledgement was returned. With the Subaurs being all over the place now, hardly anyone responds to my waves so I've stopped. With the BRZ's limited numbers I think acknowledging one another is gonna work out just fine. When I rode my F4i I would wave to all the bikers as it was the thing to do.

People don't really wave in the WRX/STI circles anymore

Speaking of F4i...I've heard the Harley bros don't like to wave to the sportbike bros.

This is true, and very upsetting. A few don't mind it when me and my buddies are coming the opposite way and they See our hands drop first. But more often than that they just act all upset or high and mighty..

Certain Vehicles do this. Off the top of my head:

Motorcycles give the hand down wave.
WRX/STi drives give the fingers up off the steering wheel.
An WRX gave me a head nudge today and I returned.

Most cars that are high production don't. Camerys, Civics, Accords, etc don't. Trucks of similar type might.

Considering I haven't seen another one on the road yet, I don't know what I'll do. I'll probably be too shocked that I'm seeing another on the road to remember to do something!

I was pulling out of a parking lot and this guy on a blue Harley waved at me and nodded his head as we passed head on. I waved back without thinking about then it hit me I was DRIVING my WRB BRZ not RIDING my ZX-10r. Given that some Harley guys won't give the customary motorcycle wave to Sportbikes I thought that was kind of cool.

I find WRX/STI guys take notice and wave, not so much from Foresters...

Haven't seen any other BRz or FRS... But a guy in a Newer Legacy gave me the thumbs up... White, with black rims... Very clean car.

We use to just give head nods to other tuners... Lol, back in the old days...
