Hey, how have the jack point reinforcements held up? Any oddities or issues?

I've used these types of reinforcements on multiple cars, including this one, without an issue.

It's a simple and high value mod for me. I literally used them again over the weekend. They rest well on Esco jack stands, which have a nice flat top.

Yeah, I noticed you had the same jack stands as me actually so that's what made me interested. Are they permanently attached to the car or do you remove them after lowering it?

Hey, FYI just in case someone else asks. I don't think those jack point reinforcements (at least the ones from your link) will work on 1st gen cars. The pinch weld is too short to touch the bottom of the channel, which is how it seems to be supported on yours.

Great build btw. Sorry to keep pinging on this one part.

Apex Forged SM-10RS 17x9 ET48, anthracite, 12mm spacer up front

Coated with Diamond Protech Wheel. No center caps. The ones they included are too small and I’d just pop them out for the track anyways.

New track setup. I’ve been bumming trailer space from a friend that owns a 28’ enclosed. I drove to Leroy Engineering near Cleveland and picked up this beauty of a trailer, their Grid 295 model. It’s connected to my Slambert tow bar.

I took the plunge and installed a Trackspec hood vent. This one is designed for a FK8 Civic Type R, but suits our hood well. If I had to do it over again, I’d move it forward an inch or so, but this should still work well. Its behind the radiator and first 1/3 of the hood so its low pressure.

Made a big change for 2024 season. I moved up from MCS 2WNR to MCS 3W. I found a good deal on some used Karcepts 2W and converted them to 3W. The difference in ride quality and bump handling is astounding. Confidence level has gone up dramatically when loaded up going over bumps, and that's even with me moving from 400 lb/in rear springs to 500 lb/in rear springs. I’m really looking forward to trying them out next week at VIR.

Other supporting mods for this year. Cusco spherical bearings in front lower control arm, Cusco engine mounts (mine are sagging making the overpipe hit), Cusco transmission insert. Reset the alignment and weight balancing and off we go! For anyone actually reading this, the Cusco engine mounts added more NVH to the car than any other mod I've made so far. I don't love it, but it's better than hearing the overpipe rattle against the subframe.

Please don't tempt me.

I've been kinda struggling with the 2WNR for the last year. Not that they've been bad (like Tein Flex), exactly, I just haven't been able to get them to feel "right", whether it's ride on the street, or handling on the track. I had RaceComp Tarmac 2s on my STI, and they had a "ok, these are good dampers" feel compared to the things I had run in the past (KYB, Tokico, or Koni with ground controls, and early 2000s era Tein Flex). And for the price of these shocks and how people talk about them, I was expecting to be impressed, and just haven't been. They soak up some bumps like they're not even there, but yumpy stuff just suuuuucked no matter what I did with the knobs. And I couldn't find adjustments that would make the car not terrifying to turn in at 80+ MPH due to just not feeling sure the back end would stick.

I was running 400f/450r. This weekend I swapped back to the 450f/550r that came in the kit from Karcepts that came on the car, and set the shocks to the Karcepts baseline. While the rear stiffness is gonna get old on the drive to/from the track (that's why I had swapped to the softer setup right after I got the car), my initial impression without even touching the damper knobs is that it does feel like the front and rear are more in sync, and I can feel what's happening load-wise at the rear more, which I think will give me more confidence into corners.

This spring setup is much more in line with the factory ratios, and I'm wondering if that's a factor. If you're 400f/500r now, you're probably back in a similar suspension frequency ratio now, too.

The advice I got from a shock servicing company was that the 2WNR is built very differently from the rest of the MCS lineup, and they wouldn't even touch rebuilds on them. He literally advised me to sell and move to another product.

The 3W, and I suspect the 2W are just vastly different. I haven't tried setting my 3W to 0 high speed bleed, which would mimic 2W yet. I should try that to find out if I would be happy with 2W.

I'm absolutely blown away how good this setup is. A long trip would be cake in this, but also the grip coming out of corners is just absolutely confidence inspiring. I wasn't really expecting a change in behavior there, but feel one. I agree with you that I could never really got the 2WNR just right. There were times where it shined, but others like street driving which were exhausting. Do you get the jittery street feel? Lights jitter up and down at night, no matter what you do with the setup? That was me.

I think another contributing factor is that the 2W and 3W can be run at lower internal pressures. Brian set the 3W to 140psi, but he says you can't lower the 2WNR. I was also impressed with the 6 page chassis setup guide, specific to the 86 and 3W. It was a much different experience from the 2WNR guidance that I received before. Maybe because the 2W was second hand. I suspect part of it was also fatigue from me asking questions about getting the setup just right.

Yeah… I had those 2way non remotes on my mx5 a couple years back and they were awful within a year. When I sold the car the next owner told me that all 4 shocks had blown lol.

I pretty much swore off mcs after my experience. People have nothing but great things to say about the ones with remotes so yeah I guess they are just completely different as stated above
