Hey all, thanks for activating my profile! Just picked up a 2016 FRS 6MT with 45k miles a couple of weeks ago, coming from a Nismo 370z. So far, this car is way more fun to drive, not sure why, but I'm excited to be a part of the forums! Looking forward to learning a lot from you guys

Always been a fan from a distance but figured I’d finally make a profile and start to contribute.

New member here. I'm on the sunset side of life, but I've convinced my wife to tolerate the purchase of something "sporty." At 6'2", I can't easily fit in a Miata, but the 86 seems to be a similar type of car which will work for me. (I'm also looking at the BMW 2-series.)
Anyway, I'm here to soak up your knowledge & ask an occasional question. (Yeah, I'm also looking at driving HPDE.) Some of my previous cars were ... `67 Mustang 289 `72 Mazda RX-2 `77 Toy Corolla SR-5 `84 Toy Camry `97 Mustang GT `02 Honda CR-V (Only the Mustang was an auto) Many motorcycles along the way as well. Plus my current `02 BMW 325i & `19 Subie Outback. JohnM |

Just getting into this whole forum thing.
Bought my 17 86 new, tasteful mods for now until the cash gets up for big boi mods, i.e. boost lmao. Looking forward to learning more about the 86/brz/frs platform from you all. |

Last December, my Mustang ran its last race at 146k miles and the transmission went. She was babied for the first 126k and then driven well after. Decided to fix it and sell it, and while looking at cars online I found the Toyota 86. Rear wheel drive coup? 500 something pounds lighter? Yes please. Went to the dealership early the next day and asked about them. They only had one left, and it was getting pulled out the back because somebody was going to test drive it. I got a good long look at it and fell in love. 20 anxious minutes later, it pulls back up. My turn. Gave it some gas going onto the freeway, little windy backroad that lead back two blocks from the dealership. That drive back hitting turns at 45-50mph with the car firmly planted was what got me.
Anyways long story short the other guy couldn’t finance it and I left with a 2020 86 Hakone. I keep finding reasons to go out to town. I justify it because I get nearly 10mpg more than with the Mustang (even though I pay more for premium). Plus, living on top of a medium-ish mountain means there’s windy roads everywhere. The Mustang roars through these roads, and the 86 dances. I get in this weird trance when I drive this car that I haven’t gotten from any other car that I’ve driven. A very unique “I am the road” feeling. Anyways. The bronze rims really hit IMO. |
