C8.R makes its debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona starting today. They qualified well and are currently quickest in P4. Finishing will be a major accomplishment.

Weather forecast is good vs. the rain shortened race last year.

Available streaming online or broadcast in the U.S.

Edit: Ride along on a Daytona road course lap with Jordan Taylor in his C8.R. Check out the steering wheel in the inset that looks like an F1 item and his comments about onboard radar, clean lines and driver duties during a lap and the main straight where you "can do whatever you want".

Yes, that's what this couple paid too. "There was an extra charge of $5,000 for requesting the VIN"

This is a cool story.

Let's look through the eyes of a collector for a moment. Imagine having a low vin number, let's just say #2 in this instance because #1 of cars seem to be auctioned or something dumb, and crazy decked out in a high or highest trim available.

This being the 1st generation to go mid engine, having a low number, and high trim that isn't ridiculous, might make it a collectors item one day. How much a collector would jizz in their pants to have #2 in their stable and 40 years later show it off to people and be like yeah, I have #2 of the first ever mid engine Corvettes.

A low VIN means something if they were done in sequential order to match the build. I'm not sure how much value it really adds if it really doesn't represent anything other than I was able to purchase a number I wanted. Of course, these cars are all low VINs anyway so not sure how much it matters.

Sorry, I made this statement with the assumption of a similarity to limited cars or numbered plaques representing a (pseudo) sequential build order, but this cars not "limited" /shrug.

I still feel there may be some merit to having a gen 1, but I could be completely wrong.

Maybe, but he's also a YouTuber. The thing will likely have either a matte or high gloss wrap (nothing in between), at least two turbos slapped onto the engine, a larger wing, and possibly a body kit which requires cutting into the wheel well.

This one makes more sense to me, although it's still a vanity thing. To me I still think this would have more meaning if you were buying a build position, not just a random number.

I wonder how much this complicates recalls? The recall would be for VIN 00001-10000 plus number 34123 and 99999 and 696969

In what sense would this complicate a recall? It's not as if the entire VIN is randomly generated. Only a portion of a VIN is considered the unique identifier, at least, that's how everyone else does it.. It also shouldn't be manually managed, that would be like a bank manually inputting transaction information for debits/credits, human error WILL happen.

Just the listing of which ones are impacted. I guess they would go by build date rather than VIN order. More just thinking out loud than anything else.

Build date along with other codes in the VIN I'm sure. Minor database things.

I like to think out loud sometimes too.
