Haha, there's one of those in my work parking lot now and it's even more hideous in person than it looks in that video.

I actually think it looks quite good. The proportions are nice.

The guy looks like he's a bit full of it. He seems like a tall fella so he likely wouldn't fit well in a 5 series either.

182hp is more than enough for any sort of driving anyone might ever do in a family sedan, come on. 0-60 is 9 seconds so it won't rip your face off, but let's face it, nothing on the road needs to be any quicker than that. It's a family saloon, not a track car.

I mean there are criticisms to be made on hydrogen regarding how sustainably it's produced, or how the charging network isn't developed enough. But he doesn't seem to want to address those.

It's probably faster 0-600 miles than a Tesla though.

As long as someone drives in circles in California.

I drove an older one once when in California (owned by a senior coworker). It drove unremarkablely, which was the point. Basically it drove like an ICE Camry.

I fixed it. The 300hp V6 Camry has a 0-60 of 5.8 seconds. What was the GR86 again?

You posted an image I can't see apparently...

There's quite a few up and down the west coast according to Google. It would be an interesting race to see how many laps from San Diego to Seattle and back a Mirai can go in the time it takes a Tesla to do do it once or crash out on autopilot.

Edit: Google lies according to other databases which don't show anything in Oregon or Washington. But there's one outside of Reno?

i agree. the original vw bug had 25 hp. other than for towing, no one needs more than 100hp max for commuting.

my main concerns with changing fuel type really do come down to the 'recharge' network.

I would love to try, but they dont sell those here, only in like 2 places in Canada (Somewhere in BC, i think Vancouver and somewhere in Quebec i think)

We dont have ANY hydrogen infrastructure here to support it.

The second gen Mirai is actually kind of nice looking, the interior is very Lexus-esque....and alot has to do with the design language looks eeriliy similar to that of the Lexus products before the full on touchscreen design (like the ES).
There were rumors that it was supposed to be the next GS before the GS got canned and the car was repurposed as the next gen Mirai.

The first gen Mirai was almost like someone told them to make a Prius but not a prius and definately not a normal car.

Did you zoom in? It looks like they are in Canada. I think the stations are mostly exclusive to California. At least the first gen was only sold here.

As for a mileage race, I don’t know how meaningful that would be. We know the charge rates, refueling rates and locations of stations. There isn’t much mystery about each of their limitations.

9 seconds is pitiful. Enough to where you need to floor it at some onramps just to be near or at speed with traffic by the time you merge on the highway. 7ish is acceptable. Any quicker than that is certainly nice, but definitely not a necessity.

lol, most people don't merge at speed. most merge at 20-40mph into 70mph traffic...
