HKS HEADER BACK EXHAUST SYSTEM tuning

hello friends, i plan on buying the HKS HEADER BACK EXHAUST SYSTEM (https://www.ft86speedfactory.com/hks...l#.XeKOwOhKiUk) and i would like to know if it is cattless header, also do i have to get a OFT to tuning it or is it plug and play? If i do need a OFT to tune it, should i use OFT off the self tunes or custom tune because i have a trd air intake, so will that be a stock map intake or aftermarket?

Thank you.

@Shindobaddo
The R spec doesn’t have a cat in header, GT spec does.
Yes you will want a tune to unlock the gains and turn off CEL.
OFT OTS tune will get you 90% of the gains you’ll need a custom tune for the rest.

Curious why your looking at this system over others?

I'd recommend getting a custom tune via EcuTek. I have that same R spec set up.

I haven’t heard it. Where did you hear it at?
Im not saying its a good or bad setup. If sound is a very high priority and you like the sound of this. It could be the perfect choice.

But 95%+ of NA gains are from header and tune. So to me maximizing that portion would be priority. The remaining 5% is removing cat in front pipe 2.5% , cai 1.5%, and catback the last 1%.
For that kind of money you could get a lot of header+tune.

For ecutek tune you need a laptop, a ecutek license and dongle. And then a tune from your preferred tuner. Many tuners offer complete packages (license+cable+tune) for a total discounted price. Xero-limit, delicious tuning, and counter space garage are three great options. They all offer bundles.
Ive had custom tune from shiv at openflash, delicious tuning, and xero-limit. Xero-limit being the latest and current tuner i am using.

The HKS header will do plenty fine I'm sure for them. It may not be as high end as the ACE but I think the output is good. And the sound is good. There are a few clips online of it. I'll have to pull one up

Hks makes several header variations. The basic hks EL catless header for around 650$ is a great bang for buck option. But 2800$ for complete headerback unless you are completely in love with the sound seems a bit much. Ace350+hks double res FP+csg mxp touring 86 is about 2800$. Sounds amazing, zero rasp or drone, slightly deeper tone, barely louder then stock, and has the best possible gains.

Oh yeah, the R-Spec set up (catless header plus that special catted/ muffled frontpipe) is a premium, but it's similar to the Apexi super exhaust. Personally, I find mine worth it, but it depends on your goals. I obviously wanted power but also to sound pretty decent. I also don't like a fully cat-less set up.

that exhaust is sick! i love the carbon on the tips. if ur wanting to get it as a "package" to save money though, i think theyre tricking you, id probably just get that hks header and that hks catback with the carbon tips both for $1500. where do they get off charging 1300 more for a front pipe and overpipe? with the $1300 dollars left over get the oft. no use spending money on a front pipe if youre just replacing it with one thats catted anyways.

Do you have any sound clip of your R-Spec Set up? I love my stock header noise level; however, I believe I need to de-cat it with the Cosworth SC as stock header still too "restrictive".

Did you also coat or wrap your header? any heat issue?

Thanks!

Unfortunately I didn't get a sound clip of when I had both the HKS header and their R-Spec front pipe.

The ACE CS400 I have on their now is ceramic coated inside and out and thus far I have not had any heat issues. I did put heat reflective tape on the oil pan but that was about it.

Nice, I want to get similar set-up as you do.

Sorry, few questions for you:
1) How do you like your set-up so far?
2) Does the coating still up pretty well?
3) The Ace header seems quite pricey and how does it compare with the HKS header in terms of noise?
4) Do you mind PM me more information on your R-Spec Front Pipe and ceramic coated inside and out on the header (where did you get it and how much)?

I am not a fan of loud exhaust, rasp or drone to be honest. That's why I kept my header stock. Unfortunately, due to the too restrictive header for the SC, I am looking for something quiet.

I have a Perrin 2.5" cat-back and I don't want something louder to be honest.

Thanks!
