Correct. There isn't room to run them anywhere else.... That said,
You can improve the room and run the collector much lower by removing the front crossmember and replacing it with a tubular unit... People have been doing it to Mustangs for years. It would be much easier to make a new crossmember with application-specific motor mounts than trying to make adapters for the stock mounting points, especially because the front crossmember just bolts on and off.

Example is a mustang front crossmember, the single picture is of the FRS front crossmember. Look at how much space you could open up if you replaced that... You could even delete the stock power brace and integrate it, and be left with a proper K-frame.

It's super tight down by the steering rod.

We have heat shields for the fuse box, etc. I'm not too concerned with NA headers. Plenty of LS setups in other chassis with less room run twin turbos up top with manifolds, downpipes running right by/over the valve covers that produce much more heat. At this level of a build if you can't figure out simple heat management i'm not sure what to tell someone.

The stock subframe really isn't in the way and working around it is quite frankly not that big of a problem for the LSx series. The idea behind the the design of these headers was essentially long tubes in a mid-tube size package. They turned out for lack of a better description....... perfect. Heat management isn't even a concern for me.

With stock LSx manifolds in there, there are gobs of room. A log style for a turbo setup would provide a lot of room as well. Even with these very well designed long tube hybrids there is a surprising amount of room in there still. The FA20 is giant width wise so it makes for a lot of room to play with.

I thought most shops had been forced to use a front sump pan because of the subframe... Some had to cut material from the pan to fit it. Unless you have a custom oil pan...

Insight would be appreciated. Looking at swap options again.

Well, the red one is for a mustang, it was just an example. I was actually lamenting the fact that nobody makes a proper tubular crossmember or K-frame for this car. Numerous advantages, especially to engine swaps, but I don't want to thread-jack this thread to discuss them. There is just too much perfect here already.

Disagree.

Cut OEM mounts off x-member. Then used Cusco FA20 mounts (because I already had them) rotated, and made new mounts from 1UZ to these, wasn't a lot of effort. Certainly a lot less than making a new crossmember would have taken.

Not saying that a new x-member wouldn't have been cool, but IMO it was unnecessary.
