They will keep replacing it under your insistence until there's a TSB or it's out of warranty, in which case you sell the car if there's no aftermarket HPFP that remedies the problem and is affordable.

Why don't you think that through one more time, son. Would you do this if you were Toyota-Subaru?

Most companies keep the same part number but a revision number is changed to denote the change. i.e. old p/n 123-4567 rev(-) new p/n 123-4567 rev(a).. The rev(a) shows that the part has been changed from original when it was 1st released.

The only time a p/n change is required is when you have a major change occur like: a change in a micro-controller, FPGA, new circuit board design basically a physical change.

With the DRL change it could be a firmware change that can only be done at the factory so the easy fix is to swap ECU's and report the cars s/n that it has a the updated part.

If the car did not do this during the test drive, and there was nothing in writing or verbally disused do we have a legal right to return the car? Do we have any lawyers on here?

The only recourse is to write, or call Toyota and tell them to correct the issue or have them issue a statement stating that this is normal operation.

Mine started today for a few moments and then went away. Im hoping if i have to take it in to get checked out later on the dealer doesnt claim my aftermarket parts caused it.

Just a heads up, I took my car in today to get the oil changed, and I mentioned the cricket. They came back after looking at it and did confirm with me that it was the fuel pump (without me mentioning it beforehand) and that toyota is aware but has not taken an action yet. So there we go, straight from the reps mouth and makes me feel a little bit better. Everyone take your cars in for sure if you haven't and mention the issue, the more complaints the better! Im sure they wont want bad PR after all the fiasco they had years ago.

What's the problem, pops? It's not functioning as it should. You bug them to replace it under warranty a few times a year and they better do it. They will do it until there's a TSB for the part with a revised part or until the warranty's over. You're SOL when the warranty's over if this isn't fixed by then, hence the suggestion to sell.

Anything else I should explain, gramps? It's the nature of the car game. BMW replaced HPFPs without changing the part number and continued to do so for the rest of the warranty. It cost them less in the long run than making a revision.

Wouldn't the lemon law then come into play in the above scenario?
