I personally wouldn't go higher than 18", you can fit 19s but the ride quality really suffers as a result, and the chances of causing lots of damage on a pot hole increases dramatically too since the sidewall height has to be much less to fit the stock arches, 19"s on cheap coil overs will shake your fillings loose.

I'd go 17" on the Z4 if I could, but they don't clear the brakes.

For my 86, I've got 2 sets of A-Line 17" x 7.5 wheels, and I love them.
Tyres are cheap too - 225/45R17 is common, competitive, and relatively cheap.
I can get a set of 17" Bridgestone RE002s for about R5k, whereas a set of the 19" equivalent for the Z4, Bridgestone RE050 is about R15k.

I'm due for a new set of tyres soon... just wondering if those 225/45/17's will fit on my STD rims?

225/45/17's fit fine on the standard(high spec) 17inch rim.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4's go for around +-R1550 per tyre
(Pricing obtained during July 2017 at TyrePlus Pretoria)
Best value for money road Tyre currently in the market IMO,
Impressive dry & wet braking + excellent longevity

Yep, Michelin PS4 is a great tyre, and good value too.

I've got 225/45R17 PS4's as road tyres on my 86, and 235/35R18 PS4's on my Z4 - in both cases they work very well. Predictable and easy to handle at the limit and beyond. Surprisingly good grip for 300tw. They're quite noisy, so you know what they're doing - no surprises. Don't know much about their wet weather handling yet.

On the 86, 225/45 is slightly narrow for my 7.5 rims, so they should fit perfectly on stock 7.0 rims.
