Oh wow, what year did they start to do that? The last time I was in Japan was 1997. Interesting though.

Like 05-06. I remember seeing a lot of people importing Infinitis and Lexus before that but never offically sold in Japan. Funny to think for those that imported, many were made in Japan, shipped to US, shipped back to Japan

A lot of guys in Japan just buy the Lexus/Acura/Infiniti badges and nameplates from their local shop, just like we do the opposite with Toyota/Honda/Nissan. As for re-importing, the reason is that it's often considerable cheaper to do that than buy the car domestically (pricing for new cars in Japan is basically fixed). |

How do the original badges come off? I took a look at them on the car and I would be a bit concerned about prying them off. I do like the Toyota badges but they are not the same "pewter" color, but rather chrome.

Welcome to the world of JDM and even OEM. But like I said, it's slightly cheaper if you buy from Carson Toyota
The set will be $59.00 for the pair shipped here to Carson, CA Shipping from here to most in the US should be about $5.95 via USPS Flat Rate Box Shipping But then you also need: Toyota Japan OEM Wheel Cap Set (4 pcs) This set will be $79.95 per set And the mother of them all: Next is the JDM Air Bag This will $876.00 shipped here to Carson Ca, it will be about 6-8 weeks to get as it has to ship via ocean freight since its a Hazmat item Oh and if you still have a kidney or a leg you haven't sold, you might as well get this, too: Toyota Japan OEM GT-86 Exhaust Tips The price is $180.00 per set Have fun with your rebadging |

Or you can just buy the regular ones (assuming they are cheaper) and either paint them black or plasti dip them. |
