Cross Country Trip in Our New FR-S (PA->CA)

Hey fellow 86'ers!

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Matt and I'm new to the forum, although I'm a long time follower of the FT-86 Concept. I just joined the club by purchasing a 2014 FR-S in Whiteout, and I can't get enough of it! My wife and I will be driving the car across the country next week as we move to SoCal, and we are going to be fighting over driving privileges. I'm going to update this post with pictures and updates of our trip.

Here we are at the dealer on Saturday:

The next morning as I couldn't believe I'm an FR-S owner:

Here is our planned route:

I'll update with more info later. Thanks for looking!

-Matt

Gratzi !
I couldn't be happier with mine. Enjoy your drive.

Might ask to have this moved to FRS General so more people along your way see it.
I happened to stumble on this under New Posts.

Sounds awesome! I would definitely look into putting on clear bra or some sort of protection for the new car. And, make sure not to abuse her too much before you hit 1,000 miles! Have fun!

Ah yeah, the clear bra is a good idea. I actually planned on getting one, but totally forgot. I'll try to get that done this weekend if I can. The engine should be over 1000 miles after the first two days, but so far we've been breaking in the engine according to posts I've seen around the forum.

By that time, the empty stretches of highway in the south shouldn't be too bad .

Nice looking car! Not much room in the drunk though, for a cross country move...

I'll be looking for your car in the "spotted" thread once you get here to Ventura County!

Interesting route. I'd suggest cutting across the Carolinas and into Tennessee as there is some really great driving roads and mountain scenery in that area. Cherohala Skyway comes to mind.

I've also seen stretches of Arkansas that are absolutely beautiful and Oklahoma's got to be tons of wide open highway.

I'd imagine it's nicer than Alabama and Louisiana. lol. Seems like it might be a shorter trip, milewise, as well.

Either way you go, take lots of pics! Cross country road trips must be awesome.

Haha, yeah... we'll both have weekender bags, a small cooler, my camera equipment, and the armrest I ordered on Amazon (seemed to be a must have for the long drive). That's about all we'll be able to fit comfortably. We're shipping all of our belongings via a U-Haul Pod, so we really don't need to bring much with us. Originally, we were going to drive the 4Runner out and buy the FR-S when we arrived. After the test drive, I was grinning like an idiot and we agreed it would be an incredible experience to make the trip in the FR-S.

We originally wanted to go through Tennessee, but we adjusted the route to meet up with friends and family (free lodging!) in NC, Atlanta, and Texas along the way and stick to our timeline of ~10 days.

Plus, our two main points of interests are the French Quarter in New Orleans, and the Grand Canyon. One of my main POI's is the Four Horsemen Burger in San Antonio, TX I saw on Man vs. Food a while back. I want to see how hard Mr. Richman's job is for one meal. Could be a physically disastrous leg of the trip after that stop, but I'm willing to risk it, haha.

I would strongly recommend changing your travel plans. That route is ..... not the greatest. The 2nd half of the country is all desert and you will want to kill each other by the end of it.

Id recc driving through Colorado and Utah, its so beautiful I've done it twice (once in a Prius C lol). The elevation kills power, but the roads (and 80 mph speed limits) are amazing. Seriously.... Change your route.

This is a once in a lifetime trip. You dont want to regret half of it.
