P&L Motorsports Stage 1 Turbo Kit Build Thread

Prepping for another Stage 1 turbo kit install here at the shop. This one is going under the knife today. The customer is opting to go with the @PrimeMotoring flex fuel kit so we should be able to make around 500 whp when it's done!

The engine bay looks painfully stock right now, should be much better by the time we're done with it.

From what I can see the p&l system is topnotch and I have placed it at # 1 or 2 of my favorite turbos. Unfortunately they just don't seem to get any love on this form and most p&l threads just wither away. Am I missing something? Is there some obvious flaw that I just cant see. Seems like great power, no cutting, flex option, and just plain sweet looking. Is there a heat issue? help me out, why does it get so little attention.

Price is a bit on the high side (priced at $6,600 for me) for a precision turbo. Competitors such as FBM offer the GTX3076r upgrade (oil and water cooled) with all the extras for equal or lesser value.

Not knocking P&L, they're a top company and have been around the Subaru and M3 scene for quite some time. Also not sure if they have an owner's topic, seems as though the people who buy this kit don't advertise on the forums.

Seems like most of the P&L owners are pretty low key. I was waiting for someone else to start the owner thread, and I am guessing they are doing the same. I will start one tonight.

I think the issue is that our average turbo kit customer is typically an older professional, looking for a proven turn-key solution. They want the simplicity of having one company to provide top tier parts, service and tuning all under one roof. Unfortunately, those type of guys are generally not involved in the forums much.

We're always happy to get feedback on our parts. I'd be happy to outline the differences with our kit and a competitor's, especially regarding pricing, with anyone who is interested. Feel free to PM me!

You should have made one a long time ago. The P&L kit is a great kit.

Yeah, but I wanted to stay away from being P&L version of Lexus... I had my turn with the header, but since no one else is taking the torch I will get to it. I got home late last night and didn't get a chance to start it, so I will try to get to it shortly.

There is a difference between running an owners thread and taking up the torch for shotty work.

It's listed on their website for $4,999 msrp and will get you 320 out of the box on pump gas. Add injectors and a pump to break 500 on E85.

We much prefer the turbo kit in the P&L kit to a compareable Garrett in the FBM kit. Actually there are no comparative Garrett's offered. The GT28r/GT2871r they offer in the base kit gets outspooled by the Ball Bearing PTE in the P&L kit and it make the same if not more power than the 3076r. 500whp+ is common place with the P&L on E85 under 20psi. The fact that the garett is watercooled is more of a crutch especially considering you have to tap coolant lines to accomodate it.

Also keep in mind that the FBM kit requires slim fans to clear even the smaller turbo they offer where the P&L is the only true "bolt on" kit. No coolant lines, no slim fans, no trimming which is why we charge half the price to install the P&L kits.

Also do not knock the PTE turbos when the fastest FBM cars run Precision turbos like their own drag car a well as the 10.8 1/4mile FRS in Puerto Rico. Our customers have seen excellent results

Spoken like a truly unbiased non Precision turbo/kit salesman. Well done. Spools faster, makes more power, and surely stays cooler without water cooling. The wonders of the Precision turbo.
