Haha, someone crossing over their discussion to my more active hobby recent years, hi-fi.

Not big on home theatre or combining 2 channel sound with video switching personally.

For pure 2 channel audio, pre-owned market, dealers and forums for learning: www.usaudiomart.com (I use the Canuck equivalent).

I use an external DAC, not too expensive but capable of decoding 24 bit FLAC for Tidal hi-fi streaming though I now use Spotify. Also receives optical digital from my CD player. The DAC is fed from USB from notebook and using something like this with a very simple integrated amp (or in my case preamp and amp with a long 24' XLR connection separating them for room setup purposes) I am a fan of using an external DAC to keep it upgradable and separate from things that don't change as rapidly. My Cambridge DAC Magic + cost me $300CD used and can work as a preamp as well but only for digital sources up to 384Mhz.

Past Denon AV reveivers have been known to fail often.

My 2.2 stereo... I have a Adcom power amp, Rotel Preamp, Klipsch dual 8" towers, and a pair of matching 10" klipsch powered subs. I bought the system the month after I graduated. Blew an 8" driver one time... Klipsch fixed my speaker 15 years later for free. Great service.

I have a denon 7.1 theater system too, but, its just for movies.

Numbers are not everything. My GFA 5300 Adcom is oy 80 x2 rms. Trust me, thats plenty...

my 2.0 system consists of jensen g610b that currently need new L-pad's. last time i used them, power was a Calibre 225.

my garage 2.0 system uses jensen 3p/2's off a 1980's jvc-something...

i'm an old school kinda guy!

A4L is also a good source for cheap AVRs if you decide to go that route.
That's the kind of thing I think I'm going to end up getting, though that one gets mediocre reviews. Something like that, I guess, but less than 2500.

Bluesound Node 2i
Cambridge CXN v2

Thoughts?

First of all, not a swing your audio **** (or lack thereof) thread. Second, why the hell do people have stereos in their garages? That's what a car is for.

it makes it easier to take cars apart, not having to rely on any part of it for the tunes. you don't want to be anywhere near me if i have to work without tunes.

it's therapy of one sort or another. it takes me close to 2 hours to wash the car on any given day. not because i can't do it faster, but because it's not actually about completing the task so much as it is that after a hard week at work, it's nice to be doing something detail-oriented that doesn't require deep thought or big muscles.

Come wash my cars. I won't charge for the therapy.

Not so much a fan of using a streaming box when a notebook plugged into a DAC can use Tidal or Spotify as well as many other streaming services. Apple notebooks are full sampling rate right out of the box whereas Windows computers do require a setting adjustment to the audio in order to reach full sampling rate.

Not interested in Spotify or Tidal. I have a netbook I could set up for this task, a couple actually. So netbook + winamp + plugin + phone amp + DAC/Preamp... What exactly do I gain over an all in one solution? Not saying that critically. Really just wanting to know.

I've had the Cambridge CXN V2 for about a month now, I use it for Tidal, the Cambridge Connect phone app is great. I don't think it's a prefect fit for what you're looking to do though.

And yeah, you guys know we have a general stereo chat thread already, right? http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105664

Why not? I mean, I'd prefer a streamer with an integrated amp, but that's gonna be expensive for something good, and I already have a good amp, so...
