I have a .3 mile long gravel driveway. I now have 131k on my 2013 FR-S. I've washed it six times.

When I hose it off and the last time I washed it (three months ago) the paint looked brand new.

Ha! That's me. When it gets that dark brown buildup (the car is white) around the trailing edges of the doors and back seam, it's time to wash. Usually after six or 8 months.

I wash before and after winter. Then once or twice a month during the summer depending on weather.

I may occasionally get it cleaned in the winter if it's a beautiful day and I feel like driving to the car wash after work. They don't do the best job, I feel I do a better job in half an hour on my own (I despise this and do a quick job) than they do in 15minutes, so it's fine for the winter but it is not worth it in the summer.

My house is surrounded by six acres of lawn, so I just pick a spot that needs some water...

Well yeah, I need to move my brothers' and my dad's cars before I can start washing mine, otherwise hell ensues. However, no one is allowed to drive my brothers' cars, so trying to coordinate everyone moving their car at once is a PITA. Some of us aren't lucky! Also the white pearl loses its shine when it's filthy so cleaning it keeps the nice pearl effect. Winter is irrelevant, but it always starts the day off well when you wake up in the dark and you see your car all shiny!

Another vanity point is that my car is strategically parked at work so that no one can park on my passenger side to avoid dings and everyone has to drive by it so they all get to see it. Amount of compliments I got was great and people always notice. I don't exactly wash it for them, but it helps.

Wash every 2 weeks, however will do a wash between my bimonthly wash if I am going somewhere other than the daily route. Still in the first 6 months of owning my 86!

Before bringing it in for service so the dealer doesn't rub the dirt all around on my paint.

I take my car through touch-less wash once every week. I share car wash card at work among my colleagues, so we all have a day allotted to use the card, which allow one car wash everyday. This way is cost 2.50$ per wash plus free vacuum!

I clay/wax it twice a year (before and after winters).

Well it's been 11 months of ownership of my 2016 FRS 2.0,it's been washed twice and waxed (Nu Finish) once. It still looks pretty good except for a few small dried sap spots that will not be removed under any circumstances(tar and bug remover/hand sanitizer). I can live with it.

In my youth I had neighbors tell me to stop washing and waxing my car as I was likely to rub the paint right off.

As I am 2 months away from being 70yo my enthusiasm for a perfect polish job has fallen short of my past standards and that's OK with me.

Same story here. Back in the early sixties I had a '57 Chevy 2-dr hardtop that I tried to wash every week, even in the winter. Sometimes the windows would freeze up.

Nowadays I go to the carwash about 5 times a year. I'll be 73 on Oct 30.

If by touchless you mean those ones at the gas station where you drive in and then millions of rough bristles scuff the crap out of your paint with all the junk they picked up off of thousands of other cars then color me T R I G G E R E D. I'd never subject my car to that, man
