I'm surprised that article kept bringing up the Nismo 370z as the car's "target".

Yea I don't know about that either. I guess it's the closest thing, but I see the Supra more as an alternative to the Euro GT cars (coughZ4coughcough). The 370Z won't even be close to competitive considering it's on a chassis that had its last update 10 years ago with a motor from the 90s that has hardly been modernized. It's just too outdated and there's no successor in sight. The Supra will have this market to itself, almost ensuring good initial sales.

Porsche was a benchmark in development. Tada said, again poorly translated, “Porsche is a tremendous existence. It is amazing to ride a Porsche, it feels like handling and sensuality of the engine. This was also a very useful reference for the development of the next Supra.”

Supra will be considered if manual option available. More likely the WRX STI if it looks anything like the concept car. Also looking at the Caymen.

The WRX/STi on the new much tighter platform may rock people's world! It will be a big bugger though.

I hear you on the size. However I keep getting flak from the wife that we own 3 cars for 2 people. Usually comes up when I buy new tires for the FRS. The STI needs to be more powerful than current, better fuel economy, manual transmission, and look very similar to the concept car for me to pull the trigger . If not then the Caymen will become the second car. Still trying to figure out how to get the golf clubs in the Caymen. I will say though that I know what I am giving up when I sell the FRS and it will be a tough day for sure.

My biggest pet peeve is that it will be made in Austria by Magna Steyr. Even with BMW designed parts, that it is not made in Tahara or an equivalent (if there is such a thing) Toyota factory is what makes it simply a rebadged frankenstein. Not interested in something that expensive being outsourced. The made-by-Subaru 86 I could stomach but even the 86 has typical Subaru problems. Lord knows the quality of Magna Steyr products. The MKIV Supra's materials and and problem free quality was a huge selling point for me, as it is with most people that buy Lexus or other high end Japanese cars. The whole value proposition of a Japanese car is thrown out the window with this Austria business.

LOL
Oh come on dude they are very close when it comes to known issues!
I mean there is only a 14,680 difference between the two.

to that end, being built by Magna Steyr could mean it'll be more reliable lol.

@Tcoat what is that screenshot supposed to represent?

The jury is out on Magna Steyr quality/reliability as far as I can tell but it's certainly case closed on Toyota/Lexus: best of the best.

Magna Steyr is widely regarded as one of the most sophisticated and tightly process controlled automotive plants in the world. When a major manufacturer can't figure out how to build it efficiently or well enough, they go to Magna Steyr.

The G wagen, the 4wd E classes, and the first folding metal roof (SLK) were/are all made there. They've made over 500,000 Mercedes folding metal roofs. Assembly quality won't be a problem on the Supra.

They are the know issues lists for a 96 Supra and M3 (as a generic similar level BMW that I have no clue where it is built and don't care because I have zero interest in BMW).

The Supra had 33 known issues the BMW 14,713.

May statement that they were almost the same quality was not only dripping in sarcasm it was floating in an ocean of it. Not sure how you could have possibly read it otherwise but I guess that is the hazard of print.
