Did you consider the Mustang GT, Camaro SS and G37 also?
While I do like the Mustang, they are everywhere down here in Florida. I do like the look of the Genesis better, kind of like a bigger version of the BRZ. Also I like the interior better over the Mustang and Camero. The G37 is a nice car, but they are less hp and torque then the Genesis and cost more.

Also the Hyundia warranty is hard to beat.

Me to.

I was considering a Genesis just before they discontinued it. I'm not a big fan of buying second hand, (I know its dumb so please no preaching) so that left the Twin.

If the Genesis Coupe was still available it might have won the race to my driveway if not on the track.

I will also never buy used again. Somebody has to buy new for there to be used ones so all the guys preaching "never buy new" are sort of shooting themselves in the foot with their arguments.

If I hadn't accidently stumbled on the FRS while simply killing time odds are that I would have been driving a last gen Genesis coupe at this very moment.

The whole "but it is a Hyundai so it is crap" thing went out the window at least 10 years ago when they really upped their game. They now easily meet or beat Subaru in all aspects of quality.

A colleague at work has a manual trans '16 (I think) Genesis 3.8 Track version which I've driven a few times. I'll just summarize the good parts by saying it's got a stonking motor. The transmission feel is good, but not as good as the '86. The clutch has a hair-trigger feel to it, especially compared to ours with it's long range of engagement..somewhere in between the two would be perfect. It's sprung stiffly, but you still feel the weight. The Brembo brake package is nice looking, and I assume it performs well when used aggressively, but I wouldn't know. Proportionally, it's like a 5/4ths version of the '86. I like the simpler interior and dash of the '86 as well. The power would be nice, but the rest of the car falls short when compared to the 86, at least in terms of sport. It is indeed a more GT-oriented car than ours.

Interesting. I've concluded that the BRZ is, for me, the perfect GT. My DIL had an earlier Genesis with an auto. It was a pretty troubled car. I hear they upped their game and maybe someday, I'll drive one (when the new edition debuts). For now, though, little to no interest from this quarter.

eh, in the truest sense of what a GT car is, think the Genesis plays that role a lot better than the twins..as wiki puts it

...though the definition is vague, considering the twin's spartan interior and the least compliant suspension (compared to 4 cyl/V6 muscle cars/genesis), I don't think that was the mission here even though it is called a "GT"86

It is for me as well, but I prefer a more spartan car than most. Radio means nothing to me unless I'm in traffic, and even then it's just a way to distract me from the monotony of stop-and-go driving. I could care less about the quality...a single speaker would suffice. As far as HVAC goes, I have a window...nuff said. If there was a way to install roll-up windows, I would...

Auto-tragic. Never understood why people buy sports cars with automatic transmissions. Kind of defeats the purpose, but just my opinion.

With that kind of money to spend, why not get a used Lexus GS or RC? Toyota's NA engine is world class, much better than whatever Hyundai can offer.

So buying a Ferrari 488 defeats the purpose?

Not all automatic transmissions are built the same. The same can be said for manual transmissions as well, some just are built poorly.

Reminds me of a guy who said the following, and I quote:

"Turbos and force induction is cheating, real cars have 8 cylinders with loads of low end toque, I will never understand people who buy cars with turbo units, it's cheating."

People who make statements like that belong in the same category as people who once said:

"Why do we need a windshield, whats wrong with goggles?"

OR

"I will never understand why people buy cars, whats wrong with a horse and cart"

OR

"Why do we need a wheel, whats wrong with walking?"

OR.

"Why do we need a spear, whats wrong with a rock?"

And it goes on and on and on and on.......

Now remember I'm not trying to insult your opinion on automatic gear boxes, I'm just stating my opinion on Luddites.
