Don't get a 19 or 20 BRZ, no performance changes compared to 17.

Get a turbo kit/wait until 2021/2022.

It is the only time to sell the car. As a trade in, with NY sales tax credited, it amounts to $20,100 this week. In a year, what’s the point? It will be paid off more, but worth crap, so exactly equal. When 2021 gets shown, worth not much. It is not mint either. It bothers me. But right now the market calls for it.

I see votes are for new BRZ. That is a pretty cool idea. That was the original idea until my hottie girlfriend noted that maybe i would want a change if everything is same price.

You really cannot take money with you. 70 year olds buying sports cars is kind of sad/ a bit late.

I feel I bought the BRZ too early, I could have kept the mini cooper two more years, it was old but worked. Reasons are not so autistic as Value for dollar etc.

A performance change would be buying a Veloster N.

I am into beauty, experience, or fascination. I put my money into those things. I am quite pleased with much of life. Each of these cars has one or two of those attributes. Blood pressure dropped, and laughs generated, is the only worthwhile returns on investment.

Wait....whaat? 70 year old people buying sports cars is kind of sad/a bit late!!!!

I'll have you know, sir, that I have friends that are that old that still buy brand new sports cars and LOVE them! They have been buying brand new sports cars for all the years that I've known them, and it is not sad, or late. They have had really cool sports cars, and have driven them happily. And I'll tell you something else, I'm 65 (almost 70), and I have never even thought that it was sad that I drive a nice little sports car UNTIL NOW! Am I that sad old man that you are talking about. Are the other oldsters on this platform sad old men in your eyes. Or are we happy old guys that love cars including sports cars.

Here's what I think is sad - young people that don't know how to drive a manual transmission.

Ok, forget what I just said in this response to your post. I'm as opinionated and as wrong as you are.

Personal finance is like religion. You seem to have your mind made up with your own justifications and no one is going to change it.

Just make a decision and post pics of your new ride!

I prefer mid life crisis over sad old man

Funny thing is my preference in cars has always been sports or performance cars, I have had the odd boring vehicle when needed, a ute or two, a sedan (all V8, except for the WRX STI)

Buy, thrash, modify, break, fix, break, fix, break, fix, flip

Started at 16, still going strong at 55, much to the Mrs disapproval

I do enjoy listening to people justify their decisions

My recommendation is to look at your finances and assets (cars are NOT assets), from there you use common sense and "do whatever the hell you want"

Kids these days

People are acting like i care first about money. That is lower down on the list. Only a consideration that could sway me one vs another if it is a toss up. I didnt ask about money. I also know that i have a rwd car currently. I have yet to seriously feel a difference between this and a fwd with mechanical differential. I have driven many cars in many situations. It is a nice bonus but torque and design easily compensate for it racing around

What if you like the car and want a zero miles version of it?

That is the reason i started to look at selling it now vs when it gets smashed or chips more or has no warranty. Magically erase the car to zero miles.

I will add: it is sad to buy the things of vitality and precision only in the eldest years of life. I find it great to see an older person continue to buy sports cars, a continuous stream of fun cars from youth. My first car was a ‘88 camaro v6 with manual transmission. I had this low miles in 1993 at 18. It is sad to see my neighbors for decades say how cool my cars are, and then finally buy one at 70+. They had more money than me by far all this time, but seem to desire to to not let themselves enjoy driving and beautiful cars up until then.

Just my opinion, but it’s pretty hard to have more fun than a 17 BRZ with the performance package. I’ve had a fair amount of high performance cars over the years, not one more fun than my 17 BRZ PP. For the first time in my life, I’m seriously interested in a Corvette. I’ll wait for the hype to die down and the markups. Around ‘21 or ‘22, when the bugs are worked out and you can buy one below MSRP, I’m likely gonna pull the trigger. But the BRZ ain’t going anywhere. I love the underdog status of this car. Recently I had the opportunity to stay right on the tail of an obviously frustrated last gen ZL1 owner in a series of tight switchbacks on a curvy country road. He had what, about 3x the horsepower? But just couldn’t put distance on the BRZ in that situation. Anybody can buy horsepower, hold on, stab the go pedal, and go fast in a straight line. Takes relatively little skill. The BRZ? Now there’s a fun car that I heard someone say is for fast DRIVERS. I think that’s pretty accurate. I’d keep the 17. But to each his own. You’re right, ya can’t take it with you. Whatever you do, have fun doing it!

They had more money because they didn't do dumb thing like trade new cars every two years.
