I, and I’m sure many others, understand that you have a MASSIVE responsibility when you get behind the wheel of any car. Not saying I’m a professional race car driver (I wish), but I am saying that I can hoon responsibly lol I know my limits and the car’s limits.

Only the people who bought the car because it’s “cool” or whatever will bitch about tickets, getting smoked, or crashing the car. Others understand what’s at risk when driving and are aware of the consequences of driving the car hard.
I don’t have to assume anything. It is being clearly stated by many. I play as well but realize there is a time and place for it.
Oh and if you ever see me doing the speed limit on the highway slow down and drop in behind me because I know where the cops hang out.

Thanks I guess lol I mean I agree with the “time and place for it” thing. Trust me, there’s a lot of V6 yachts in Houston who try to maneuver through traffic when everyone’s going like 40mph. THOSE are the idiots you’re talking about. I know every community has its share of morons, but like I said, don’t assume people who drive their twins hard ALL fall in that category.

I don’t. I very specifically said those that say they do it “all the time”. Maybe they only drive 2 miles a day so it is all the time for them. The very nature of this thread will gather up all the “redline every shift bro” crowd that will then wonder why their car won’t sell for top dollar when they get sick of it. Some day I am going to sit down and figure out how many of the “I plan to keep this car forever” crowd actually stil have it. I bet the number is shockingly low.

Lol unfortunately that’s probably true. Shoot they’ll have to keep it forever since they won’t be able to sell it with a blown transmission and bumper hanging off.

There will always be “that” crowd which is fine with me so long as I don’t they don’t whine about BS they put themselves into or put other people in danger. People buy these sports cars for different reasons and I respect anyone who can truly appreciate the car whether they’re cruising at the speed limit or blasting down a backroad. I’ll continue to drive mine hard because that’s my definition of fun. And I’ll just stick to saying I’ll keep it for a good while lol sounds more realistic.

I bought my 2019 because my commute is 20 miles of twisty back roads. Yeah I’ll dig a little deeper into the corners, but I use the suspension more than the skinny pedal. And yeah, I’ll drive it a bit harder when it’s wet out vs dry. It’s a balancing act of USING the car the way it’s meant to be used, while not over stressing components.

I work at a mostly Subaru performance shop, and we build these things for a wide variety of customers who all have a different idea of what it really means to DRIVE your car.

These FA engines aren’t anywhere near as primitive as it’s EJ predecessor. But just like every horizontal engine, keeping proper lubrication on crucial components is key. Like some people think you need to live right next to red line on every shift. Those people need to monitor and maintain their oil and fluids WAY more than someone who’s more focused on stance or hard parking it.

Personally, I run Motul 8100 EFE 5W30. It’s designed for DIT cars, so works great in the FA. Also don’t skimp on trans and diff. Motul Gear 300 75W90 in the trans and Motul Gear 300 LS 75W90 in the diff really made the car feel complete and smooth.

If you're not dumping your clutch and red lining constantly you're probably not driving it as "hard" as you think.

If you are don't expect it to last. This car can reach posted speeds + quite quickly without abusing it.

I just don’t want to kill it before 100k but I feel like the car wants to be driven hard if that makes any sense.

You can expect it to last 41,357 miles... seriously what are you expecting people to say? If you don’t maintain a car and you abuse (clutch drop starts, drifting, etc.) it, it will likely have problems earlier and more frequently than a car that is maintained and isn’t abused. This applies to any car.

As long as you do the maintenance and check to make sure nothing is visibly worn, and replace anything that is, the car will last forever. Far too many drive cars like they are meant to be thrown away.

Oh, and I drive to get over 40 mpg on every tank until I see a twisty road.

I drive a handful of legitimately fast cars every week. Helps keep the brz in perspective.

Normally shift just below 4K. When I do run it past 4200, and whatever magically changes and makes the car actually go, the car is fast enough for me.

Then I jump in the ‘83 Toyota 4x4 and remember what slow really is.

All reasonable points. That said, the tech scheduled for the work is a 30 year Subaru veteran and has had my engine apart before (timing cover and cam carrier reseal under warranty), and they're putting a clutch/FW in for a good deal, since my TOB won't last much longer. I'm not too worried about them messing up.

Yep basically haha. I drive a 85 4X4 deluxe extra cab daily. Now that’s a real gutless turd, makes my tS that much more fun when I drive it!

I don't drive my car hard because i want to keep it around for a long time. But I'm doing something wrong if the shift light doesn't come on at least once every time i drive it.
