Surprised it's in NASCAR. Was thinking GT4 class in sports cars.

The GT4 customer program has nothing to do with NASCAR unless someone wants to run on in IMSA which NASCAR owns. They did mention that Supra is competing in NASCAR which is just Supra body paneled cars that run in the Xfinity series. Those cars were formerly skinned as Camrys.

These GT4 cars will run in Series like IMSA and SRO in NA and GT4 and similar roadracing classes in Europe and Asia.

GT4 is one of the fastest growing production based racing series in the world.

And that is as stretch. Have you seen the "Supra"?? The stock cars are common template so all of the bodies are same regardless of manufacturer. The model differentiator are the stickers they put on. I'm still wondering why Toyota chose to put the Supra name into this series. Not really the market, for the most part, that would be looking for a sports car like the Supra.

GT4 is a much better fit. A sports car should race in a sports car series.

Maybe because a large segment of the Japanese love NASCAR. I know that was the case when I was over there. It is funny that we have a lot of people here that try to do the JDM scene and in Japan they have a lot of people copying what they think is the American car scene. We were taking of our Scion badges and putting on Toyota badges while they were taking off Toyota badges and putting on Scion badges.

Besides with Toyota's track record in motorsports they kind of need a series where they can compete and win against other major manufacturer efforts. NASCAR gives them that. Hopefully GT4 will give them that too.

Yeah I think we are both obsessed with each others culture. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. I mean they love baseball, lol! We love drifting...

Its not like they have to make at least 500 production version of these cars for homologation purpose like the old days. Kind of meaningless because only the shell vaguely resembles the road going cars. Engines, suspension are totally different.

Yeah NASCAR is what they call "stock car" racing. It's meant to make it more of a driver's competition than whoever have the most money. And it sort of* works that way, lol. But yeah cars are all the same just made to look like the sponsors cars from far far away. Which I mean some of the tracks are like almost 3mi long...

Depends on the manufacturer. The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, as the race version is known, came with the exact same engine and transmission as the street car when it came out in 2016. No modifications whatsoever.

also what's this thread doing in the Vs section?

I mean, Toyota got more LMP1 Le Mans finishes this year than any other manufacturer!

How many manufacturers entered cars in LMP1 at LeMans? Trick question: Toyota was the only factory team in that class. Audi? Porsche? They both quit the class over two years ago. Toyota could not beat the factories but since everyone else quit they have managed to beat a couple seriously over matched private race teams. Hurray?

Toyota has always used the Camry For NASCAR until the Supra was announced. I guess they wanted to match the NASCAR vehicles with a RWD car now that they have one in the NA market?
