Just front. I'm running XP-10 in the rear. I've got OEM or Stoptech rear pads somewhere in my garage - I'll probably throw them on at the same time.

StopTech 125.47020 aka STI 2004 5x100... EDIT Back to amazon with these. Here is the correct part number CENTRIC 12547043 Got a Pair for 114$ shipped to my door. CARID.com beat rock auto but there are not many sites who are stocking this. Gotta Say RR Sport Front+Rear and buying your own rotors is a huge value. I will do that math but it was under 1500$

Just started a rebuild on my front stage II calipers. My passenger side inner pad wore twice as fast as the outer and a little crooked. RR Racing was very helpful with sending me a link to the wilwood site.
Here are the part numbers for a front stage II caliper rebuild. I bought them on Summit.

Does your caliber have anti-knock springs installed? I’m curious if they would make a difference in pad wear by helping keep everything square.

I took the calipers apart last night and the small pistons on the passenger side were really hard to get out. Hopefully cleaning them up and installing new o-rings fixes this issue. But honestly I am shooting in the dark here. There is no reason a caliper that is 1.5 years old should have to be rebuilt. Even with my track abuse. Unfortunately I bought them used and I am not sure what the previous owner might have done with them.

Just anecdotal but I had the RR Racing Sport Performance BBK until last year, only sold it following an accident, to help finance repairs.
I ran BP10, EBC Yellowstuff and Winmax W5 on that kit, all in pad shape 7420, and all on both street and track. The BP10s were my only front brake pad the year I got the BBK and I wore them down to less than 10% within that year with combined daily driving, track and autocross, before I replaced them with EBC Yellowstuff, which I ran similarly for the next year. Then I got the W5s intended for a dedicated track pad which I used for 2 more years. The Yellowstuff and the W5s were both wore down to ~50% each, before the kit was sold. In my experience, the Winmax W5s were just too obnoxious for street driving so they didn't get many street miles. The BP10s squeaked periodically, but were mostly quiet and the EBC Yellowstuff never made a peep. I do think my particular calipers were manufactured to extremely tight tolerances. The BP10 pads fit in the calipers smoothly but very snug, but I had to sand down the sides of both the Yellows and the W5 pads in order for them to go into the calipers smoothly and even then, they were also very snug, there wasn't any space for side-to-side movement of the pad in the caliper. If you find the pad has some wriggle room in the caliper to move side to side slightly when you put them in, I'd imagine that is the primary source of noise for you. As for my opinion of each of the pads, I wouldn't recommend the BP10s to anyone when the EBC Yellowstuff is a superior product in the same class of a trackable street pad. Quieter, longer lasting, superior pedal feel and pad release characteristics (found the BP10s would sometimes stick to the rotors after releasing the pedal from a full stop) and are on par for overall heat resistance and bite. The W5 is not suitable for street driving. It will bite cold but has a spongy pedal feel when cold and is too noisy. |

Two caveats though. One, I didn't have time to put in the OEM pads in the rear, so that couldn't be contributing to the noise. Second, even with the pistons retracted, there wasn't enough room to fit the shims. So with a liberal coating of anti-squeal paste and using the shims, that could quiet things down further. Possibly. Performance-wise, the cold bite is surprisingly good for a ceramic-based compound. But the pedal is slightly softer.

RR Legitimacy Confusion
For the past month, I have been grazing through the forums, all the FB 86 enthusiast and track pages, and been in contact with RR and about a dozen people who have used their kits but I still can't make a decision. My observations have been somewhat split between people who swear against RR and call their products garbage/trash/low quality/worse than OEM and then the other half loving their kits/wilwoods and testifying to its greatness. Likewise some customers incredibly disappointed with the build quality and performance yet others are the complete opposite.
Am I crazy? Why is there such a discrepancy on this kit between the community? I understand that products have their supporters/haters but I can't seem to find a consensus on how legitimate this kit is. I've been going back and forth on proceeding with purchasing them but each time I was swayed away I've been told to look at AP sprint, endurance, stoptech etc. but I don't want to count RR out for their value and support I've seen. I'm interested in the stage 1 kit and leaving my rear oems alone. I autocross regularly with a handful of track days here and there and would like to improve my braking performance but don't want to drop turbo-like money. I know they're not the best in the business but I just want to know if they're legitimate and good to run considering bias & performance |
