Family Backed into my BRZ

Hi guys, went to the movies today, and my family member backed into my car. It's not terrible, but the paint was scraped off the rear bumper in a medium sized scratch, and a circular scratch about an inch square. It's not deformed or pushed in, just paint. I'm not mad, and they offered to pay to have it fixed. So the question is, would I have to respray the whole bumper? It's a 2015 white BRZ. Hoping the dealership can match and fix it for ~200, as it's not super huge.

It's totaled.

Just get some touch up paint and ask your family member to buy you some dinner.

Touch up paint won't hide. My dad scraped under my front bumper the first day I had it (seems I need to avoid family haha) , and while very close, the Subaru paint doesn't perfectly match. I was thinking the dealership might be able to hide it better than I could for not super outrageous prices.

If you want it perfect I'd go to a dedicated body shop, not the dealership. Ask for a quote, it's quick and painless.

I believe it's a 3-stage pearl paint, which means touch-up will never get it looking right. It'll require a large amount of blending if you want it good as new. $200 probably won't cut it.

For reference, I had someone ding the side of mine by the door handle and crack the paint. They had to blend all the way up to the fenders.

Touch up appears to be your only not super outrageously priced option.

Better get your family member to pay for some driving lessons for your whole family

Dealerships don't have paint booths. They outsource body work. They aren't a body shop. What is a super outrageous price?

Masking, Sanding, filler, more sanding, primer, paint, clear coat, paint booth. All the materials alone would be at least $100. And then half-day to full day of labor. $200 is the minimum on the low end and expect $350+ to be done right.

Touch up. Or pay up.

Thanks, that's probably the most helpful response I've gotten, since yours is white. Did it hide after the job was done?

Yes, mine was good as new. The paint portion of the repair came out to about $700.

Have the entire rear bumper painted if you want it perfect, and there are other bodyshops BETTER than the dealer.

The Subaru dealership where I bought mine has a "collision center" with a full body and paint shop. So that really depends on the dealer.

It is a 3 stage paint, so the whole bumper will need to be recleared if done right. My front bumper to fix a scratch was 800$.

Damn you got hosed.

You could probably get it 80% with touch up. Not perfect, but cheap.

Check out this thread.. lots of good info:
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...ch-up-job.html

The guy completely botches the paint application and it still turns out great.
