Its because new 4.3 FD. With early model cars you would be at 3.2k or 3.5k rpm

If it was an issues, they wouldn't put 4000 on the tach. It would jump from 3 to 5k.

Yes 401/407 I cruise along at 3500-4000 some days.
Idle most days. I'm not understanding your question though. You don't have another gear. How did you plan on lowering your rpms? |

I usually try to shift gears at or just before 3k, unless there's a car up my ass then I let it ride out to 4k-4.5k to get more distance. I try to already be in 2nd gear by the time the car in front of me starts getting distance from a stop. But this often requires stopping an additional car length behind them beforehand.

Think of it less about the specific RPM and more about what % of the engine's max speed you're at.
4000rpm is roughly halfway between the range on our cars. That's the equivalent of 2700rpm on something that redlines at 5400 (like a v8 or something). No big deal. |
