I see a weight and configuration mention which generally corresponds to piston number and arrangement (6-8-10-12, I-V-H) which very well may give the flat 6 a level shot against a V12 of the same displacement.

Page 7 of this allows for a -5% hit to a cars horsepower, +30kg ballast or -10L fuel capacity at the regulators discretion:

Racing aside the discussion is on weight distribution, as I said, if my post didn't convince you all I can do is recommend some calculus and dynamics courses.
So they all run FIA gt3, and here is the "balance of performance" for 2014:
http://www.fia.com/sites/default/fil...0GT3%20BoP.pdf

So you see it's really hard to make direct comparisons, as they are all of different weights and restrictors and engine setups. Currently, I think the MR audi rs8 is dominating, but to me it seems so arbitrary since to me it all depends on the balance of performance regulations.

if you look at the WTAC, all the cars are awd or fr. I really wonder given similar weight and hp, what the best setup would be. Maybe it would be putting the engine in the middle and the driver in the trunk...

You might enjoy the handling more in the MK1 or MK3 than the MK2. I'd say get your hands on a MK3 and do an interesting swap or maybe a GT2871R on the 1ZZ (seen that once and got around 360whp and the car was a beast).

The MK2 feels like it needs to be a little lighter and more rigid, but overall it handles well, especially when properly modified. I love my MK2, but I enjoyed the handling balance in my FR-S on the stock suspension more. I think the slight front weight bias was intentional, and the car gave such a sense of being under control at all times.

I turned my Aero Lift into usable downforce with the 86 Speed Factory front splitter, DriveWay Labs rear diffuser and a Gurney STI wing lip. Would love to see the numbers at 70 or 100.

Personally I highly prefer the MK1, I like the boxy styling of the era and would make a project out of it bringing one from the brink of the scrapyard to a just barely tolerable streetable track car. I'm not terribly concerned with going fast, mostly with having fun, but this is just a fantasy at this point, rather low on my priority list at the moment, probably 1-2 years out or so.

MK2 has it's charms on paper, the styling being #1 and I've heard V6 swaps are relatively easy although not interesting at this point. MK3 is definitely the red headed step child but probably the least hassle of the three to just hop in and enjoy, it really needs some good PR, any info on that beast you mention?

Yeah, it came in the shop equipped with a poorly running setup. Car was smoking, and had a shit tune. Turbo kit was Haas Turbo. Fairly good components. Log manifold with a T25 flange. It was one of their early kits as it still came with an intercooler instead of the water/meth injection setup. Replaced several pieces that weren't up to par. Replaced all the worm-drive clamps with V-band, swapped the included turbo for a GT2871R, got rid of the Greddy E-manage and went with HKS F-CON V Pro standalone. I don't believe the motor ever was sent out for any upgraded internals. It's been several years since this project so I can't remember exactly. Made around 360 whp on the dyno if I recall. It was a blast to drive. I saw the car recently. Still running strong. Owner needs to replace those damn bald tires though. I swear, I think those are the same ones it had the last time I saw it in the shop.
