I believe it's Subaru's design that they used in the 2012 Impreza. There are some complaints on NASIOC about the system, and it seems like it might be a bit of a work in progress. My parent's dog was able to sit in my car's passenger seat with the airbag off, but moving my hand over to pet the dog's head caused the airbag to turn on and off.

Had my FR-S for 2 weeks and I noticed the false positive on the passenger detection. Didn't bother me much at first until I realized it was my phone triggering it. I'm hoping for a fix because this capacitance sensor is way too sensitive, I pressed down lightly on the seat with my hands and it turned on the airbag. I don't know what the legal threshold for passenger detection is but it should be much higher than what it is now.

Hopefully it just need to be recalibrated.

Coming home from the grocery store today, bread and eggs caused the seatbelt thing to beep. Ridiculous!!

Seriously? I put my purse that probably weighs 10 or so pounds and I don't get the chime for a seat belt.

I feel like mine got better over time? Had a replacement wheel in the seat today and no beep but my nexus used to set it off all the time. I think sitting in it breaks in the foam or something?

I'm finding just the opposite. It just started being "sensitive" a few days ago.

It's explained further up the thread, but the sensor in the seat doesn't use weight. That's why cell phones can set it off but a tire won't.

Over-engineering creeps it's ugly head out from the passenger seat. Luckily it doesn't set off the sensor.

Does anyone know if it's sensitivity can be adjusted?
Because I have an Aussie GTS and I leave my phone and iPad there all the time, no issues, I can even sit my hand all over it with no issues.
But it works perfectly when necessary.
