I cracked 2 windshields in 2 weeks. I think it's just the cars so low. With that said, I'm not sure the glass is softer, but I think it's more noticeable because it takes 99.9% of road abuse.

I've replaced 2 windshields in my 2013 BRZ. Both were from highway driving, but nothing out of the ordinary. I think that the aero of the car is causing rocks to be driven into the windshield differently than the other cars I've had. I also feel like the shape of the windshield is prone to actual cracking, rather than just pitting. I've seen both happen on the windshield. I was able to fix one big pit, but the other cracked almost all the way across before I really even knew what happened.

Ive also had two replacements from highway driving, once from a 18 wheeler dropping some rocks, another from a wind storm picking up rocks and throwing them at the car.....

I'm calling BS on the height or angle of the windshield making it more susceptible to chipping.
I've had my car 9 months now and the windshield looks like it was sand blasted. I've owned over a dozen lowered cars (much lower than my FRS) and NONE of them have ever shown anywhere near the amount of chipping with 3-4x the mileage. While I am on my rant I'll have to throw in that the paint quality is also terrible and looks like it's 10 years old and not 2 years old. I thought nothing could be worse than my Mitsubishi but I was wrong. My 8 year old Audi TT that has sat outside it's whole life doesn't show even a 1/4 of the wear that the exterior of my FRS is already showing at less than 2 years old. |
