I knew someone that wanted to get into a 96 month loan. I was able to push her away from that bullet tho. It's amazing what folks will do for a lower monthly payment.

Live closer to work, and ride your bicycle.

Not just poor people, but people in general should do more of this.

This is a pretty naive assertion.

Live closer to all three minimum wage, part-time jobs? Ride your bicycle from one to the next where you need to change into a different uniform, where they have no facilities other than the public restroom to clean up if you get sweaty/ soaked in rain/otherwise grubby?

If you haven't lived that life, it's difficult to comprehend the complicated logistics, and the answer is never as simple as, "Just get a different job", and moving to somehow manage that can cost thousands of dollars up front.

That being said, people do bear responsibility in that they tend to want more than they can afford. We've sold so many on the idea they "deserve" something nice when what's best is something inexpensive and reliable. I saw this nearly every day working at Carmax - fortunately they simply aren't set up to be as predatory as most dealers or Buy-here-pay-here lots, so I didn't find myself contributing to the problem.

I know that here in Florida, I love being in a restaurant and seeing a kitchen worker come in dripping sweat from his bike ride to work, while I'm sitting there thinking about him preparing my meal.

I'm also reminded of my ex's brother. They grew up in a rural area, and when he graduated high school there were no jobs close by. He was dumb as a post and didn't even consider going to college. He didn't have any money to move out of the parents' house.

He was stuck until he landed one of the rare jobs in the nearest factory, 60 miles away. His old truck wasn't up to the commute, so he ended up buying a clean used truck and financing under the terrible terms he could get as a young person with no credit. From a finance perspective it was a stupid move, but from a reality perspective it was the smartest option he had.

He certainly didn't have the option of riding his bicycle to work.

I'd be looking at the bikes. I'd be looking at anything else to avoid those homely hipsters. Just 'cause it's naked doesn't make it attractive.

I had the same thought. That was why I had to cleanse the eye palate.

Hopefully my eyesight will have gone before that looks attractive to me. Never thought I might wish for blindness.
