well, i'm in southern california and my local sales tax is 8.75% [i think], so i pay the local sales tax for wherever i purchase the car from and pay the difference when i bring it back and register it?

kind of confusing...

You pay the tax when registering the car. Wherever you purchased it, you pay the tax in your state of registration.

yea, that's what i read...

you don't pay at the [out-of-state] dealership, but you get the temporary tags, so you can legally drive it back home and once you take it to the dmv to register it, you have to pay your local sales tax [based on where you live]...

i just don't want to get screwed over and pay two sales tax and junk, so i have to make sure i get it situated before i pick up the car...

since my chances of picking up a brz in socal by the end of this year is slim to none, i have to look out of state... i'm still contemplating of just getting a fr-s...

It seems like most BRZ's are given to reviewers and aftermarket markets...

I helped build that forum as you know. I'll ALWAYS have a Lex in the garage...and I promise not to turn into a dumbass Lexus hating troll asshat like so many who leave Lexus and still post on CL.

What's wrong with driving 400 miles? I'd do it for the right car. Drove over 600 miles to buy an RX-7 once... You could always buy one in New England and either drive it back or have it trucked back to Atlanta; that seems to be what a lot of people are doing. If you decide to go that route I might be able to help.
LOL, my brother and I drove 4500km (2800 mi) to pick up his MR2 a few weeks ago. From Merrimack NH to Calgary AB... in 2 1/2 days. . In some ways, a good road trip is the most fun way to get to know your new car!

Lol, possibly. Still sucked when I bought my BRZ. Went from 29,900ish to just under 35,000

Canada is only 5%. It's the provinces that tack on extra sales tax as they see fit. I live in Alberta where sales tax is 0%, so I only got 5% total. And I still have "socialized" medicine.
