I'm still working on all the OEM PIDs for the gauge cluster.

Got my test rig running tonight, now I can start sending the packets that I think I've got deciphered and verify that they do what I expect.

First off ill say I need to go back and re-read this thread.
Anyways, ill go ahead and introduce myself as a senior computer engineering student. This spring I did an independent study which basically entailed making an android app that interfaced through bluetooth to a microchip dev board which interfaced to a megasquirt in order to do some basic stuff. Though it wasn't really usable for anything, it was a fun time.
There is a chance I could do another project sometime this year and could do something exciting for the 86, I just have no clue what. So basically what Im about to say is if anyone runs into anything exciting, let me know. As long as it involves a microprocessor, Id consider it. Scale isn't all that important, if its too big for just one person for a semester I can potentially get two people.

some kind of module to roll the windows up when the ignition is off and the remote is used to lock the doors would make many people here very happy.

I appreciate the idea. Assuming this kind of functionality couldn't be added or configured somewhere in the ecu already, this could likely easily be done. Unfortunately in my case it would be far too small of scope to do for a class. However if it is really something several people wanted, I could probably just do it on my own time anyways, the hardest part would be finding the right wires.

This would be difficult but may be possible.

From what I know about the CANbus network, the remote lock fob will send a signal that is processed by the remote module ECU. This ECU acts as one node with it's own node ID.

It will then send out the "lock" PID packet on the CANbus network to the lock ECU Node, which locks the door.

To make a module, you would have to build a custom Node PCB, which was programmed to watch for the "lock" PID from the remote module ECU, and then it would have to send out the "windows up" PID to the windows Node.

Quite a difficult proposition, although very possible. It would require someone with PID knowledge and a test car.

What would people really pay for this new ECU node as well? The cheapest ones would cost $50+ to manufacture, and that doesn't include all the software and testing, wiring harness, packaging, shipping, and marketing.

Interesting, maybe it wouldn't be as easy as I thought. My reasoning came from the fact that Im used to older cars that don't use a CANbus for much more than core things, so it would just be some analog manipulation.

Now build a canbus monitoring device for the whole car (my route), and add this functionality in as a standard feature, then it would make sense.

I'm working on a canbus monitor with display for these cars. People are gonna be needing boost gauges, oil temp, etc. and why not just put it in the cluster on an LCD right
