do you guys think that the turbo contributed to the wreck? does that make toyota more right to want to go with non aspirated or supercharged vs turbo? or was this just a fact of drift racing?

maybe the v8 was a better way to get performance and handling? wish they could talk about how it felt....

someone should make an AMA reddit or something?

thank you, I didnt know that because Ive been around the muscle world more than the import world. I know general things but I still dont know enough to say anything really.
The main difference is the Toyota V8 uses a flat plane crank while every single American V8 uses a cross plane crank. Flat plane cranks have a very distinctively smooth engine note since the outer two and inner two pistons both move at the same time (but both sets at 180* opposites). Better way of explaining can be seen here.

If turbo's contributed to wrecking in D1, the last decade of d1 drifting would have been a non-stop train wreck. V8's are new to D1, and only really came about because of American drifting. The vast majority of motors in D1 up till this point have been turbocharged.

Not to be too blunt about this, but comparing these D1 cars to their street origin is about the same as saying a ford taurus must be a great track car because it's Nascar equivalent won some races.

The driver wrecked because he misjudged the entry. He moved up to 4th place afterwards because he figured it out. Which is good stuff given that the car was finished mere weeks ago, and they've been spending all the time from then dialing in the suspension and handling and trying to adjust from a 300whp car to a 600whp car.

It seems like it wasn't a hard hit for the rear axle break. Makes me wonder if in an accident just how much impact will it resist before the car falls apart?

Correction, Hibino failed to qualify top 16 it was his teammate in AE85 tht got 4th. Thanks wreckedmagazine for screwing that up. At least we know the chassis code is ZN6 for the Toyota 86.

That battle was pretty good. I'm glad they got a v8 version AND a turbo boxer.

I feel for Hibino moving up to big HP.

This reminds me of those clips on YT of super cars around the world losing control (sometimes they seem like the slowest moving wrecks) simply because of TOO MUCH POWER!

I'd be far more interested to see a 350hp 6 in this car!

I agree 300+ horsepower is MORE than enough imo.
