Report: 6000 BRZ coupes for 2013 model year!

This was likely stated in another thread so forgive me but this is the first time I have seen it reported by the mainstream auto press. Here is the link

Driving purists of America, act fast: It seems just 6000 Subaru BRZ sports cars will be allocated to the U.S. for the 2013 model year. The specific number comes to us from a Subaru dealer; the automaker’s consumer web site merely states that the rear-drive-only BRZ will be built in “extremely limited quantities.”

When asked for comment, Subaru representatives wouldn’t confirm the figure, but the company had previously stated that the business case for the sports coupe required 5000 to 7000 to be sold at around $25,000—what we didn’t know at that time was that availability here would be capped. Although pre-orders are now being accepted, U.S. pricing for the BRZ still hasn’t been released. Deposits are said to be fully refundable, while those that keep their money down can expect deliveries of pre-ordered cars to occur in a wide window stretching from May through November of this year.

We’ve been told that the car is already proving popular; couple that with the limited number being offered and you’ll want to move now to get yours. The fact that the BRZ is really, really good is another reason you might want to hop in line. If you miss out at the Subaru store, though, you can always try Scion: It will be selling the BRZ’s mechanical twin, the FR-S.
6000 doesn't sound to bad. Could be better, could be worse.

No worries. It is just another source confirming what we have heard.

If anything, this thread can be the new speculation thread. The other ones were getting stale. lol

I didn't see the post in the other thread. I've stopped reading every single post on this forum now and just look for new threads. Too much OT bullshit for me these days.

Anyways, for reference last year they sold 13805 WRX and STI combined, and it can still be hard to find one of those on the lot. So combined with the first year model frenzy, it will definitely be hard to find one this year. If they don't increase that number in the future, I think it will continue to be tough to find one on a lot anywhere. No it's not supercar numbers, but it doesn't seem like they are joking around when they say limited quantities.

6,000 units for the 2013 MODEL YEAR. When will the 2014's be out? Next spring at the earliest? So for not only through November but through next May quantities will be very limited. And who knows what MY14 holds in store.

That's quite a bit.

Combine that with the number of FRSes going to be available (I'm assuming more?) then that's more than enough.

It seems like a average production run for a car like this.

just another reference, Mazda sold 16,897 Miatas in the US in 2006. Mini sold 39,315 MCS in 2009 (global). Ford sold 70,438 Mustangs in the US in 2011.

Exactly. Plus first year tends to be the best year for a car in this segment.

How is that so? We still get the same car. Unless you mean problems with markup and everything.

well, if you're not buying the first MY you won't have to deal with the initial hype being passed on in the form of mark-ups and the limited 1st MY production run. I'm sure SOA will allocate more cars for US consumption as we will probably be the market where the BRZ will have the highest demand.

There might be a slim possibility you can get the car below MSRP at launch. Who knows? I wouldn't count on it either, but every now and then, a few people always get the car at invoice price at launch.
