Wrecked 10 Series, what to take off before salvaged?

So last Wednesday I unfortanately wrecked my 10 Series. Insurance totaled it but i have the opportunity to "get personal items" from it. Sooooo whats easily unbolted and has value that I can sell here? Obviously the headlights, fog lights, interior pieces etc etc.

Easily unbolted? Not much, really. The headlights, like you named.

Also in for the USMC jokes. They're the best.

are they really going to let you take things out of the car?? i know its totaled and the parts could be used somewhere else, wouldnt you have to buy back the car first, then strip it?

but a buddy of mine wrecked is old SRT4 and i went with him where the car was being help and we were stripping parts off of it, insurance adjuster told us, for every part we take off, the same part has to go back

You own it via a loan.

Until you pay off the loan, it's legally owned by whomever the lienholder is.

If you have a loan on the car you don't own the car. Whoever financed effectively owns it until you have the title in hand.

Take whatever you want but don't be surprised when the salvage company bills you for the missing parts.

That's like agreeing to sell a car, and before transferring over title you take off as many items on the car that you can before handing it over to the other person even though you have agreed to the sale

oh wait..

Ya, I have no idea about California but here the written off car belongs to the insurance company and must be left as it was at the time of the assessment. Sooo...if you were really fast and got the stuff off before the adjuster came out and he didn't object when he saw them missing then sure take some parts. After he has agreed to the write off (whether payment has been received or not) the car as it sits is theirs. Not only would they take the value of the parts you removed off their payment they would do it at full retail and include the labour even though you know bloody well they are not putting them back. The salvage company makes their money off the good parts so they are not going to pay for a car with them all missing.

"Honest I have no idea what happened to the engine and transmission. They must have fallen out while being towed"!

What happened (if you care to share as we all have a morbid curiosity when one get wrecked)?
