Window Tint

Has anyone had their windows tinted from anywhere else besides the factory? I want to have it done this week but I'm a little worried about the "simple shut windows." The fact that they roll down a half inch or so every time you open the door scares me. If I remember right (its been years since I got windows tinted) you can't put the windows down for 24-48 hours. Anyone have any advice or info on this?

I had mine tinted Thursday, it's no big deal. All the tinter has to do is unscrew the contact in the door sill on the body side. It's a black rubber piece with a screw in the bottom. This is used to roll the window down when the door is opened. It closes a circuit which sends voltage to roll the window down. After they're through tinting the windows they just reinstall the screw.

I'm not worried that they can't do it, I'm just worried when the doors open it will ruin the bottom of the tint when the window rolls down.

It shouldn't be a problem. Just ask them to put a little heat to the windows to make sure they're dry. It only takes a minute with a heat gun.

At least that's what my tinter did. He's been tinting windows for over 35 years, so I trust him.

The window tint option for the FR-S is not factory tint per se. It's a port-installed option, so it's window film just like any aftermarket option. If the port can do it, any quality aftermarket installer ought to be able to, too.

never had any tint done in my car unless it comes installed from the factory. Aftermarket is always the way to go or a local tinting shop. Cheaper and if the work is guaranteed then you have some peace of mind.

^ Yea, the tint shop I go to has been in business for years and they stand behind their work with a lifetime warranty. All 5 window cars (they considered the FR-S a 5 window job even though its technically 7) cost $185.

wow that looks dark. What % did you go for?

The windows seem to have a bit of tint stock, so I'm on the fence between 50% and 35%.

It's 15% all the way around, my first "off road" tint job so we'll see how much attention it gets!
