Anyone drive illegally without a front plate?

What's up guys!

Recently I had my front bumper replaced and the body shop did not drill holes into them...Thank god!
Initially I purchased a plate relocation kit, but I decided to driving without a front plate, cause it looks a lot better.

Any of you guys drive without a front licence plate in a required state? Hoping I don't get pulled over here in Maryland and given a fix-it ticket!
It's crazy how many cars drive without a front plate here in a required state. Have cops given up pulling people over for these minor issues?!?

Hate you guys who live in a state that only requires the display of the back plate!
.....How has your luck held up so far?

I did for a year. 1st time I took it out of storage 2nd year I owned it and parked in front of my house for a couple hours. Parking police ticketed it for no front plate. Zip tied one onto the lower grill in the front bumper took it down to the court house showed them it was "fixed" and talked subaru with the guy and he threw the ticket out. Has been zip tied on ever since.

Here in minnesota I have never been bothered by a patrol about no front plate. The 2 times with 2 cars I have been nailed it was by parking patrol.

Just remember that no plate is a free "probable cause" to pull you over and check you out. Don't have that 2nd glass of wine with dinner.

There are several hundred threads on this subject. You just take your chances. One Police Department couldn't care less and the next may go looking specifically for no plate. It also bring attention to you and the car that you just may not want. Remember that if you get caught and get a ticket there is nobody to blame but yourself.

After more than 40 years of driving where a front plate is required it seems very strange to me when I see a car without one. It just jumps out at me and even if the front looks "better" it appears wrong. The same applies to offset plates. If it is in the center I pay no attention and my brain just works around it but if offset it looks like it doesn't belong and I notice it right away.

I've been running around south Texas for 6 months or so without a front plate. The local gendarmes don't seem interested. I suspect the cops in Houston might behave differently. You pays your money and takes your chance.

Running no front plate for about 2 years so far here in California. *knocks on wood*
As long as you don't attract too much attention, you should be fine but use at your own discretion.

2 years in Maryland, then 2 years in VA. Only got pulled over for it once... in Maryland. Got a warning only as I explained I had no holes drilled in the bumper and had a tow hook mount and the front plate in the trunk. Said I "forgot" to reinstall it after washing. Now that I'm in VA, I still have no front plate and still haven't had an issue.

Seems to be the norm. Five Norcal guys and not a single plate in the center. I actually even commented on how weird it looked to me at the time.

Took mine off just because I thought the front looked cleaner. Made it about a week before being pulled over here in Washington. Officer let me just send him a picture with the plate back on when I got home and the ticket was disregarded.

I have since relocated the plate to the tow hook position. I didn't originally like the look of the offset plates but the Grimmspeed one allows you to angle the plate however you like. I found that I was able to achieve the desired offset and angle that looked pleasing to my eye while also moving the plate as much out of the grill as possible for "max airflow."

We here at the FT86Club forums do not condone any activities which would be considered illegal in your localities.

Here's a neat little workaround. In California, unless the laws have changed, the rules allow for any front-facing (read: vertical) license plate as long as it is less than 60 inches from the ground. As long as it can be seen from the front of the car, you're good.

Hint: 3M double sided tape attaching your plate to your passenger side sun visor counts.

Quote:
(a) License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and so that the characters are upright and display from left to right, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground, and the front license plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground

Like some members have already stated, it's your own responsibility to have the plate or not. In my state, technically it require to have front plate, but 90% of cops don't care. Dealership didn't drill the holes for front plate, so I didn't bother put one on.

Depends on where you're at in Maryland. I'm in MoCo, and they do care around here. You can speed on I-270 as much as you want, but you better have a plate on. I believe the fine is ~$85, so you have to decide if that's a price you're willing to pay to not have it on.

I'd rather not get pulled over, regardless of the fine.
