Tyre/Wheel rotation and wheel alignment for the 86?
Hi,
I have reached 10,000km with my 86, looking to go in for wheel alignment and wheel rotation? Has anyone did this at 10,000km? If so, do I rotate the current rear 2 tires with the front 2?(Ie. Left Rear to Left Front) (and Right Rear to Right Front) Or do I cross tires over? (Ie. Right Rear to Left Front)(and Left Rear to Right Front) Not sure how it works with rear wheel drive cars and the 86... Also, any recommendations of quality service to do the above in the Gauteng area? Thanking you in advance for your advise and help SM |

For alignment I can almost guarantee you won't find better then Hein at Autoquip in Centurion.
That being said, I'm on 30k and haven't bothered with alignment or rotation. Tyres are wearing evenly but I will take it to them to double check the alignment. If the tyres allow(not directional, etc) then cross rotation would be a good idea.

My 2c worth :
- Only rotate tyres to address uneven wear patterns. - Inspect tyres frequently, especially before and after track sessions, and rotate when necessary. - Always buy tyres that can be fitted either side, so that you can rotate worn shoulders from outside to inside. Unidirectional is OK, but asymmetrical isn't. - Some folks don't like rotating from front to back and vice-versa. I don't have a problem with that at all. Just takes a bit of bedding in, and getting used to a different feel. - If you fit aftermarket wheels, don't go staggered. It's a PITA when it comes to rotation. YMMV... After 36000kms of abuse, and camber bolts, my alignment (toe-in) is still perfect - never had to change it.

Whiteline Camber bolts install
Installed Whiteline Camberbolts today at Autoquip Fourways
Time: 30mins install 15-30mins wheel alignment Cost: R450 (Incl VAT) - cost of labor for install and wheel alignment Camber bolts cost approx R650 Toyota camber bolts cost approx R100 to R200 Purchased from: Pyroperformance CPT info@pyroperformance.co.za Summary: Install went smooth, but after actually reading my alignment, both the manager and myself were confused. The manager ended up calling @sav for advice on how to install/wheel alignment, as Sav has a pretty successful set up on his 86, My wheel alignment went from approx 0 Deg Camber to -1.24 Deg Camber at the FRONT (Zero Toe) And (This is where the surprise is) REAR -0.5 Deg on the left and -1.24 Deg right (Zero Toe) That's pretty fu$kd up lol Due to time limitations, I had to leave, but the manager assured me that this difference at the back is negligible, and that the only way they can adjust it is if they shim it. He said that shimming is not the best long term solution, and they tend to wear out...he recommended I buy an adjustable LCA. Sav got pretty good results, with -1.4 deg camber at the front and -1 deg camber at the back. Thanks for the help and advice Sav! I am going to do some research on shimming to get camber and probably go in the weekend to get my right rear camber sorted.(From -0.5 to -1.1) Take away from my experience today: Our 86's are bloody skew Here are some pics: 1) Wheel alignment results AFTER camber bolts Vs BEFORE camber bolts 2) Wheel alignment reading of REAR skew camber 3) How the FRONT looks with -1.2deg camber 4) Pics compliments of @sav and @LostSalad who installed these Camberbolts themselves, Respect Last edited by FT_86_SM_GP; 10-26-2015 at 12:03 PM. Reason: Added more accurate pricing |

@FT_86_SM_GP
Thanks for the in depth writeup man! This is actually really useful for other guys that want to do camber bolts. I haven't actually done mine yet - but I've gone and made sure I have all the right sockets. It's a touch nerve wracking because I'm new to the game and haven't ever touched suspension components before. But, like the brake discs, whether it's your arm tightening the wrench or some other guy's, the result still ends up the same. Also 160 Nm is hella tight, so if I torque it down according to spec, I really doubt the wheels will come off. EDIT: wanted to add - how does it feel? Anything noticeable on the roads? |

Didn't really notice any difference at the moment, planning on either Zwartkops or Midvaal this weekend, so will test out the handling there and provide feedback |

Midvaal is available on Saturday 31st, but the circuit will be closed on Sunday 1st due to a drag racing meet. Pity...

Cool, just make sure your tyres are not directional, inside/outside.
