The reason this actually happens is that when doing this you're increasing the pressure behind the nozzle and as the water passes through the nozzle this pressure potential energy is being converted to kinetic energy. |

If I had to field a guess I would say the materials have better flow characteristics than stock while still keeping the airflow uniform across the MAF sensor.
Who knows what the airflow looks like without a filter at all right? Also, i would be willing to bet that all these filters lean out the AFR(by a small amount) and that is where their gains would mostly come from. |

Sorry but you can't expect to do ONE baseline run and then TWO post runs and give results. If you did 3-5 baseline runs that dyno could've easily read 168whp.

Using that same logic, one could just as easily argue if he did 3-5 runs with the filter, he could've easily read 173whp.

Since it's an easy install/uninstall I recommend they do a minimum of 3 runs with stock air filter and post results, and then 3 runs with the aftermarket filter.

I think he meant to say you aren't going to get 5whp from just swapping out the filter, not running without a filter... depends on how you emphasize parts of the sentence.
I'm a little skeptical but the main power gains are where you would expect a higher flowing filter to make gains, above 6000 rpm. Maybe when they do the other two filters they will do more baseline runs before they swap out parts. |

We will do more baseline runs the second time around.

Just picked up a k&n and am having difficulty getting it to fit. Which direction is the filter supposed to face?

If i remember correctly, the side of the filter that 'sticks out' should face the engine.

[QUOTE=d1ck;349787]When you pinch off the end of a hose you're creating what's called a nozzle which reduces the cross sectional area which the water has to flow through. This is why the velocity increases. You can determine the velocity through a known opening by doing the following:
[QUOTE] Maybe I am wrong, but I beleive this is also called the "venturi effect" not only does it create faster flow but it also increases the air pressure. |
